Another Hit for Buffington

We've seen Blake Buffington pay off several large river bets today. It's impressive not only that he's still in the tournament, but that he has a roughly average-sized stack.

Buffington was the pre-flop aggressor and the player in position for a flop of {Q-Spades} {4-Hearts} {9-Spades}. After Daniel Clemente checked, Buffington bet 45,000. Clemente check-raised that bet to 110,000.

"How much do you have?" Buffington asked.

"About 600 more," Clemente replied. Buffington then called.

Both players checked the {6-Spades} turn. When the river paired the board {9-Hearts}, Clemente bet 150,000. Buffington didn't look happy but tossed in calling chips anyway.

"I have the worst full house," said Clemente, turning over {4-Diamonds} {4-Spades} for fours full of nines. Buffington mucked.

New counts:

Buffington - 330,000
Clemente - 910,000

Turn Bails Out Le

McClean Karr
McClean Karr
A four-way min-raised pot almost ended very badly for Nam Le. He was sitting in the big blind as Olivier Busquet opened pre-flop for 16,000. Mclean Karr called on the button, as did small blind Steve Billirakis and Le.

Billirakis fired first on a flop of {3-Spades} {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts} with a bet of 50,000. Le called, folding Busquet, before Karr raised to 120,000. Billirakis quickly surrendered his cards to the dealer, bringing the action back to Le. He asked for a count on Karr (160,000 behind) before moving all in. Karr snap-called.

Showdown -

Le: {7-Spades} {4-Clubs}
Karr: {A-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}

Le was out-kicked and in position to take a big hit to his stack but the board double-paired on the turn {3-Hearts}. The river bricked off the {6-Spades}. Chop it up!

Binger Gives Some Chips Away

Michael Binger raised to 20,000 and Daniel Cossette called in position. The flop came down {J-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Binger continuation bet 28,000. Cossette called.

The turn was the {2-Clubs} and both Binger and Cossette checking their option.

The river was the {6-Diamonds} and Binger checked. Cossette fired 59,000 and Binger folded, dropping to about 390,000 chips.

Shak Falling Apart

Dan Shak is having a difficult level. He raised to 24k under the gun, and Ravi Raghavan raised to 67,000. Shak gave it up with a sigh. Next hand he was the big blind.

We missed the preflop action, but the three-way pot was already sizable when the flop came {9-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {6-Hearts}. John Franciosi in the small blind bet out 40,000. Shak raised to 110k. Kyle Zartman wasn't happy about it, but he folded. Action back on him, Franciosi moved all in. "I have to call," said Dan without a pause. Showdown time.

Franciosi: {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts}
Shak: {A-Clubs} {9-Spades}

Shak wasn't surprised to see top pair was no good. The {4-Hearts} on the turn and {3-Clubs} on the river changed nothing, and Franciosi doubled through Shak. "Nice play, Dan," muttered Shak, who is now down to around 140,000.

Lichtenberger Storms Back

High on the hog

Karga Holt may be smarting after a recent pot he played against Fabrice Soulier and Andy "LuckyChewy" Lichtenberger. We picked the action up on the turn with the board showing {Q-Hearts} {k-Spades} {7-Clubs} {6-Clubs} and 140,000 chips already in the pot. Lichtenberger checked to Holt, who fired out 110,000. Soulier folded; Lichtenberger called.

The river was the {7-Hearts}. Again Lichtenberger checked. Holt counted down 200,000 chips and put them into the pot. Lichtenberger tanked for about a minute, then moved all in for 424,000. Holt unhappily tried to puzzle things out.

"We can only have the same hand," he finally decided. "I call."

Turns out that unless they were playing with a funny deck, there was no way Holt could have the same hand as Lichtenberger. Lichtenberger turned over {7-Diamonds} {7-Spades} for the nuts, quad sevens. Holt later claimed he had top two pair.

That pot was worth 1.2 million chips, restoring Lichtenberger to close to the chip lead. Holt is down to about 170,000.

Nam Drops One

Olivier "livb112" Busquet and Nam Le were heads up facing a {K-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {3-Clubs} board. Busquet bet 26,000, and Le made it 58k. Livb called, and the river brought the {3-Spades}. Both checked, and Busquet tabled {K-Spades} {10-Spades} for treys full of kings. Le mucked unhappily.

Shak's Stop-and-Go Doesn't Work

Shak's massage is over now.
Shak's massage is over now.
Dan Shak found himself in the land of the short-stacked with roughly 140,000 chips. He raised pre-flop, then called a re-raise from Kyle Zartman to 68,000.

That left Shak with roughly 70,000 chips afte ra flop of {4-Spades} {6-Clubs} {7-Spades}. He moved them all in and Zartman quickly but reluctantly called.

"I don't have a pair," Zartman said as he turned up {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs}.

"Neither do I," said a dejected Shak. "I have eight outs." He showed {A-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} but did not improve on his draw. The board came {2-Clubs} and {Q-Clubs} to give Zartman the nut flush and the pot. Shak is out.

Massive Pot Worth 1.2 Million

Olivier Busquet raised to 16,000 before Mclean Karr reraised to 40,000. Busquet then four-bet to 100,000 and Karr moved all in for about 525,000. Busquet snap-called him and tabled two red aces.

"Oh my god, oh my god! I just blew up!" yelled out Karr as he rolled over his {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}.

The flop, turn and river ran out {J-Spades}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Karr was unable to deliver the bad beat to Busquet who raked in the massive pot having Karr covered and moved to nearly 1.2 million chips.
