The North American Poker Tour Los Angeles kicked off yesterday with Day 1a of the Main Event at the Bicycle Casino. The 328-player field surpassed expectations and saw some of poker's biggest names take their shot at NAPT glory. Today, Day 1b will begin and the field is expected to be even bigger, with rough estimates predicting close to 400 players!
Yesterday, Jason Mercier, William Reynolds, Justin Bonomo, Chris Klodnicki, Carter King, Alec Torelli, Gavin Griffin, Eric Baldwin, Justin “Boosted J” Smith, and Chad Brown all survived the day. However, it was Nick Grippo who finished in the top spot as the Day 1a chip leader with 235,100. The question is, will anyone from Day 1b be able to surpass Grippo?
We are about an hour away from the cards being in the air and already some big names have arrived. Daniel Negreanu and Brett Richey have already made appearances and are expected to be joined by the likes of Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Jonathan Little, Darus Suharto, David Williams, Andre Akkari, Gualter Salles, and Jose "Nacho" Barbero, just to name a few.
Players will play through Level 9 and the survivors will return tomorrow, along with the remnants of the Day 1a field, for Day 2 action. However, before that can happen we have a lot of play before us. The tournament will begin in a little less than an hour so stay tuned to PokerNews for all the latest action, live from the Bike!
