Parker Talbot opened under the gun to 5,500 before Frank Lagodich three-bet in middle position to 13,500. It was then on Sundiata Devore who wasted little time before putting in a cold three-bet from late position to 29,000. Talbot got out of the way but Lagodich stuck around to see three.
The 4♠3♥K♦ flop landed and action checked through to a J♣ turn. It checked over to Devore who continued for 25,000 and Lagodich called.
The 4♥ rolled off on the river and action checked through. Devore tabled Q♠Q♥ and Lagodich flashed AxJx before his cards hit the muck.
The field of 150 entries created a prize pool of $727,500, from which the top 20 players will be paid. The top 20 are guaranteed a min-cash of $9,320 and the winner is slated to take home $180,850.
The chips went into the middle on a flop of 7♠10♥Q♠ and Nayda Magnus was at risk for her last 48,500 against David Dongwoo Ko. The cards were turned up and the dealer was ready to finish the runout.
Nadya Magnus: A♣Q♥
David Dongwoo Ko: A♠J♠
The board finished up 2♥ and 6♣ with no spade and Magnus held on for a double.
On a board of J♠K♥3♣A♦ the action was checked over to Parker Talbot who late registered before the flight today but had already worked up a stack of over 250,000. He sat in the tank for a moment and then bet 26,000.
Action was heads up against Frank Lagodich in the big blind who took his time and then called. The 4♥ rolled off on the river and it checked over to Talbot again who didn't take long before moving all in.
Lagodich went deep in the tank. He burned through five time banks on his way to eventually finding a fold. Talbot scooped and now sits close to the top of the leaderboard with over 300,000.
Nadya Magnus raised to 4,500 from late position before Matthew Wantman raised to 15,000 from the button. The blinds got out of the way and Magnus slid out a stack of T-5,000 gray chips. Wantman called for a grand total of 55,000 and the cards were turned up.
Matthew Wantman: A♠Q♥
Nadya Magnus: K♣K♠
The board ran out J♥10♠9♦8♦8♣ and Wantman turned a straight to crack pocket kings for a double.
Ethan Yau opened the cutoff to 3,000 before action was on Faraz Jaka on the button who jammed off a short stack for about 17,000. It folded back to Yau who called and the cards hit their backs with Jaka all in and at risk.
Faraz Jaka: A♣10♦
Ethan Yau: A♠3♠
The full board ran out K♠J♠10♣2♥5♥ and with a pair of tens Jaka got the pure double.
But did you know that Thursday night’s festivities marked the first PokerStars Players Party in Las Vegas in 13 years? It was way back on July 11, 2010, during the annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) that the online poker giant rented out the entire nightclub at the Palms for an epic party that featured an exclusive performance by none other than Snoop Dogg.
As Day 2 of the $1,650 NAPT Main Event was winding down on Thursday night, players were invited to Resorts World’s famed Zouk Nightclub from 8-11 p.m. for free drinks, appetizers, and entertainment. While Snoop Dogg was NOT in the house sippin’ on gin and juice, plenty of notables were in attendance.
Foremost among them was 17-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, who earlier in the afternoon busted the Main Event about a dozen spots shy of the money. Donning his trademark black and gold tracksuit complete with matching Luxon Pay hat, Hellmuth was joined by his sister, Anne, a 33-time Special Olympics gold medalist visiting from Madison, Wisconsin.
Hellmuth stayed busy rubbing elbows with various industry movers and shakers while taking time to snap selfies with fans before ducking out around 10 p.m. to register the $5,300 8-Game tournament late taking place upstairs.
