Negreanu Update

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Farhad Saadat limped in middle position only to have Daniel Negreanu make it 16,000 to go from the button. Saadat, an older gentleman, began chatting with Negreanu, who told him he had the opportunity to check in the dark first. Saadat laughed, made the call, and actually checked in the dark before the flop came down {7-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{10-Spades}.

Negreanu followed suit and checked behind, which both players continued to do when the {8-Spades} hit the turn. Saadat decided to bet 30,000 when the {7-Diamonds} peeled off on the river, and Negreanu hesitantly called. Saadat flipped {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} and Negreanu, who dropped to 230,000, quietly mucked.

A few hands later, an under-the-gun player raised to 14,000 and Negreanu, who was next to act, smooth-called. Everyone else got out of the way and it was heads up to the {7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop. The UTG player checked, Negreanu bet 20,000, and a fold ensued.

"We're you coming before the flop?" Negreanu asked, indicating he had a monster. The answer wasn't clear but Negreanu showed his pocket kings nonetheless.

Negreanu Has His Fortune Told

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Daniel Negreanu just chowed down on a plate of Chinese food and cracked open his fortune cookie. Holding it out in front of him, he read it to the table: "Limping will see you finish in 35th place."

The table all chuckled, and then Negreanu read the real fortune: "You create enthusiasm around you."

Hard to argue with that.

Hachem Forced to Fold

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

With the board reading {J-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, Joe Hachem fired out a bet of 43,500 into Romik Vartzar. Vartzar fought back with an all-in shove for his 444,000 chips. That had Hachem covered, who sat with about 300,000 behind. After a couple minutes in the tank and some table talk, Hachem folded he hand, claiming to fold a jack. At one point during his chatter, Hachem mentioned that he felt Vartzar had the {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}.

After Hachem folded, Vartzar said, "You should always trust your first instinct, it's usually right. That's the first thing I learned in poker." He then showed the {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} to Hachem.

Eslami Shoves Twice, Called Once

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Ali Eslami has shoved two hands in a row. On the first, he was in the cutoff seat when he pushed in, and the table folded to Cynthia May in the big blind. She spent what seemed like ages considering before surrendering her cards into the muck.

On the next hand, Eslami moved again, this time for 72,000 total. Once more, the decision stalled on May, and she eventually called all in for her last 43,000 total.

Showdown
Eslami: {K-Hearts} {J-Hearts}
May: {K-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}

The {10-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {4-Clubs} flop looked like it was going to bring a chop, but the {3-Hearts} turn left Eslami freerolling to the flush. May needed to dodge a heart to stay alive.

River: {2-Clubs}

That's a blank, and everyone gets their money back plus a few extra chips.

Third Time Not the Charm

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Ali Eslami
Ali Eslami

A few hands after his back-to-back shoves, Ali Eslami once again moved all in. Well, it was actually 71,500 total as Eslami saved his last T500 chip as a card capper. Around the table, Tyler Cornell made the call, and Eslami's last chip went in following the {7-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {6-Clubs} flop.

Showdown
Eslami: {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}
Cornell: {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}

Eslami was going to need an ace in a hurry, but it never materialized on the {8-Spades} turn or {2-Spades} river.

That's the end of the road for Ali Eslami, then, while Cornell climbs up to about 280,000.

Negreanu's Missed Flush Sends Him to the Rail

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu raised to 13,500 preflop and was called by Paul Chauderson in the big blind. Things heated up on the {3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop when Chauderson checked, Negreanu bet 15,000, Chauderson check-raised, Negreanu reraised, Chauderson put in yet another raise, and Negreanu shipped for about 160,000 total. Chauderson made the call and the cards were turned up:

Negreanu: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Chauderson: {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

Chauderson had flopped a flush while Negreanu was looking for a heart that wasn't the six. The {10-Clubs} turn was no help and it was down to the river for Negreanu's tournament life. Spectators surrounded the table as the dealer burned and put out the {Q-Clubs}. Just like that, Negreanu was eliminated from The Big Event.

She Gone

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Cynthia May
Cynthia May

Well it was quite a run for Cynthia May, but it's come to an end.

A player in early position opened with a mini-raise to 12,000, and May shoved in for less than 50,000 with {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}. The original raiser was priced in with his {7-Spades} {8-Spades}, and he was going to need to catch up in a hurry to earn the knockout. And catch up he did.

The {2-Spades} {Q-Spades} {J-Spades} flop left May dead to runner-runner right there, and the turn {4-Spades} ended any hopes of that. The river {A-Spades} filled out the board, and May thanked her table and wished them all luck before heading off to the cashier.

There are now 33 men remaining.
