HK$100,000 High Roller
Day 1 Completed
It was a slightly shorter day than expected on Day 1a of the Oriental Poker Championship (OPC) HK$100K High Roller, but it didn’t prevent seeing plenty of action in the Venetian Macau Resort & Hotel poker room.
A total of 31 entries throughout today’s seven 40-minute levels (nine levels were scheduled, but the decision was made to shave off two late in the day). The player leading the way after an abrupt end to the day is China's Hao Su, who surged up the chip counts just before the dinner break. When players returned Su continued to increase his stack thanks to some manic last-minute action, ultimately bagging up 157,200 to top the 26 Day 1A survivors.
Su is most closely followed by Chung Yuan Yu (115,000), Dmitry Rabotkin (113,000), and Ivan Leow (107,500). Tony Yat Wai Cheng was the only player to re-enter today, while everyone who busted can still re-enter with registration open until the start of Level 13 tomorrow. That message mainly goes out to Fabian Spielmann, who exited around the midway point and didn’t return, and Yue Feng Pan, Devan Tang, and Yia Qing Ji - the other players to bust and not fire a second bullet.
There are plenty of familiar faces who will definitely return to action tomorrow at 2pm though. The likes of High Roller James Chen (70,800), Matthew Moss (44,300), Albert Paik (78,800), and Thailand’s all-time money winner Phanlert Sukonthachartnant (48,300) all made it through.

As news of the shorter day spread around the four High Roller tables, James Chen and Ye Wang were getting busy with the short time they had left on Day 1A.
There was an flop out there and Chen checked from the big blind position. Wang put out what was presumably a c-bet worth 2,000, and Chen came along to see the turn. He'd check it again, and Wang didn't slow down, leading for 3,500 this time. Chen called once more.
The completed the board and when Chen checked a third time Wang fired 11,500. Chen spent around a minute and a half thinking things over, all the while holding calling chips. He'd ultimately toss them in, but would muck his hand when Wang showed for trips.
There's only 15 minutes left on Day 1A now.

Steven Zhou was under the gun and opened to 2,000, which then folded around to Dmitry Rabotkin in the small blind. He made the call, and when the big blind folded it went heads-up to a flop. Rabotkin checked to the raiser and Zhou made a 2,500 c-bet which was quickly called.
The turn came the and that got checks from both, leading to the river. Rabotkin quickly checked a third time and Zhou sprung back into betting action, leading for 15,000 into the 10,400 pot. Rabotkin calmly and deliberately thought things through before pushing out a raise to 95,000 - enough to cover Zhou.
Zhou made things simple by shoving all-in himself, and Rabotkin called even though his bet was already covering the shove. Zhou turned over for an unlikely straight, but Rabotkin had one too with his for a floppped second pair which improved by the river. The two chopped it up.

The 28 remaining OPC High Rollers are on a 40-minute dinner break, with the action resuming shortly. When the action resumes there will be some up-to-date chip counts for your perusal.
Matthew Moss and Chung Yuan Yu had reached a flop of , and Moss check-called a 5,500 bet. The turn was the which got checks from both, resulting in the on the river. Moss now led out for 6,500, and Yu made the call.
Yu -
Moss -
Both had rivered a gutshot, with neither having had much on the flop. The whole tabled had a laugh about it afterwards, presumably because another player had folded the best hand earlier in the pot.
While that pot was being chopped up, Fabian Spielmann was being chopped down over on his table. He only had 7,000 last time we saw him, and now he'll need to re-enter for us to see him again in this one.
