High Rollers in the House, More New Arrivals, Lee Rising

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Chihwen Chen
Chihwen Chen

In addition to Danny Tang and Wenling Gao, there are two more familiar faces from the OPC High Roller Final Table in the mix today with 6th place finisher Victor Chong and 5th place finisher Chihwen Chen two more in the Main Even mix.

We caught Chen involved in a hand against Taiwan's Patty Lai, picking up the action on a flop of {3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{q-Hearts} just as Chen fired out a bet of 3,100 into a pot of close to 6,000. Lai clicked it back on the button, making it 6,200 to go with Chen making the call to bring in the {a-Clubs} turn.

This saw no betting, and neither did the {k-Spades} river. Chen rolled over the rather speculative {6-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and this was unsurprisingly no good, with Lai turning over {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades} to take the pot and climb to 75,000 while Chen dropped to 29,000.

There have been some more new arrivals, with Hong Kong's Ivan Lee and Ken Wong coming in as alternates. Wong's better half Jay Tan is already in action and has run her stack up to 42,000 so Mr. Wong has some catching up to do.

The man still leading the charge as the break approaches is Korea's Jeho Lee, whom we caught in action against two tablemates. It was Lee who was the man driving the action, making it 1,500 to go from early position and picking up two callers in the button and the big blind.

All three players checked the {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop, with the {6-Spades} coming in on the turn. This saw the big blind check, Lee bet 2,000, the button fold and the big blind call. The {j-Hearts} river completed the hand and Lee took it down with a 5,500 river bet when his opponent checked for the third time. That pushed the Korean player up 125,000.

Ming's Bullets Gun Down Tang's Cowboys

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Running Kings into Aces is an occupational hazard when you play poker, but it's not a fun experience, as Tian Tang can attest to. Tang was one of the shorter stacks coming back after the break and got his last ~25,000 or so in the middle pre-flop and was beaten into the pot by Qi Yi Ming, and we're pretty sure you can guess what he had...

Tiang Tang: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Qi Yi Ming: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

Tang's Cowboys were shot down when the board ran out {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{8-Spades} and he exited stage left, while Ming raked in the pot and climbed to 65,000.

Cheng Collects From Tang

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Le Peng Cheng and Danny Tang just tangled in a pot, with Tang in the big blind seat and Cheng under the gun pre-flop.

The two had built a 7,700 pot by the time the dealer spread the {k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop, and Tang checked it to over. Cheng led for 5,100, and after weighing his options Tang opted for a call, bringing the {6-Clubs} turn. When Tang checked again, Cheng upped his sizing to 12,000. That was enough to get Tang to lay it down.

He drops to 28,700, while Cheng moves up to 50,000.

Lee Still Leading

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Jeho Lee
Jeho Lee

Jeho Lee is still the tournament frontrunner, and has been a busy bunny since last we checked, running his stack up to the giddy heights of ~137,000, though he is an uneven chip stacker, so this is just a best guess estimate.

Lee padded out his stack a little more at the expense of Zhongcai Peng, who had opened the action from late position with a raise to 2,000. Lee was in the small blind and he re-popped to 7,500 to send Peng into tank mode. Eventually, the Chinese player gave it up, leaving Lee to rake in yet another pot.

Carson Wong is still sitting with over 100K - 101,200 to be exact - but we could not catch him in action when we called by his table.

The USA's Benjamin Hamnett is still plugging away, but his stack remains much as it did the last time we caught him in action. There was close to 7,000 in the pot on the {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{j-Spades} flop and Hamnett (cutoff) was facing a bet of 6,000 from an opponent sitting in middle position. Hamnett chose to let it go, dropping down to 48,300 after the hand.

Another One Bites The Dust

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Sparrow Cheung
Sparrow Cheung

If only we could tell you who it was doing the biting.

You see, Sparrow Cheung had opened to 2,000 in the cutoff and Momo Yin called from the small blind. The player in the big blind then jammed for 18,500 which shook off Cheung, but Yin would make the call. He had {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, and that was ahead of the all-in player's {8-Spades}{5-Spades}.

The {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} flop put the worst hand in front, although not for long. The {q-Spades} landed on the turn followed by the {a-Diamonds} river, sending the player out before we could ask him his name.

What we can tell you is that Yin now has 87,000, while Cheung sits with 37,500.

Tan and Tang Down

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Jay Tan
Jay Tan

The field is shrinking now rather than growing and has dropped to 180 of the 261 entrants. One of the latest casualties is Jay Tan, who was kind enough to tell us her tale of woe.

It all started with a raise, as these things often do, with Tan making it 1,800 to go from UTG+2 before an opponent in the small blind re-popped to 5,500. Tan pulled the trigger for 42,000 with {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} and the small blind made the call with pocket jacks and flopped a set, and that was it for Tan, at least for the Day 1B flight, though registration is still open for the Day 1C turbo.

A player who will be trying his luck in that is Danny Tang, who could not find any traction in the 1B Main Event flight. Tang too was a victim of ace-king syndrome, three-bet shoving all-in with the Big Slick and getting called by an opponent's king-queen. While this would normally be a good thing, the flop came down {q-}{q-}{q-} and Tang left the table before the rest of the cards came off the deck.

Wong Pressures Hong; Pan's The Man

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Carson Wong's stack has been in the top 10% of the field all day, at one point leading the entire pack. He continues to build, opening the button to 2,000 and getting three-bet by Xuechun Hong in the big blind. Back to Wong, he came in with a four-bet to 21,000 and Hong would ultimately let it go.

Speaking of the top 10%, you'll now find Yuefeng Pan right up there. We're not sure how he got them, but he's currently sitting with a stack of 155,000 - good for the chip lead.
