Day 1b Completed
As is often the case in tournaments, the Day 1b field of the Oriental Poker Championship 2018 Main Event absolutely smashed yesterday’s Day 1a turnout. A total of 257 entries turned out to play today - a big increase on the 142 we saw yesterday - and after 11 40-minute levels approximately 129 of them have made it through to tomorrow’s Day 2.
Right now everyone is chasing the big stack of Kimi Dong, who ended the day as chip leader with a massive 218,200 (topping the 186,300 that Day 1a leader Shun Yan Feng bagged up). That includes all of those still currently grinding in the turbo Day 1c flight, the results of which we’ll be able to bring you in the morning. Only then will we know how many runners in total will return at 1pm tomorrow, and where they’ll all be seated.
Joining Dong at the top of today’s counts are Xiao Shizi (189,100), Tony Liang (169,300), Zhao Lin (165,200), Jeho Lee (159,200),and Yuefeng Pan (156,400). As for notable names, we’ve got the likes of High Roller final table members Albert Paik, Wenling Gao, and Victor Chong, who ended the day with 90,100, 63,100 and 42,000 respectively.
Then there’s Carson Wong, who spent much of today with the biggest stack, ultimately finishing with 128,600. He took the chip lead early on when his pocket kings busted a player holding pocket queens. Alvan Zhang (32,900),Wayne Zhang (74,400), and Ben Hammett (80,200) also made it through.
Of course, where there are survivors there must be casualties. The likes of Danny Tang, Xixiang Luo, Jay Tan, Tian Tang, Raiden Kan, and Shiaqing Lin failed to reach the end of proceedings. However, don’t be surprised to see them back here tomorrow, as they may have entered Day 1c.
We'll have the full end-of-day chip counts for you ASAP.
Tomorrow the players will return to blinds 800/1,600 with a 200 ante. The blind levels will increase to 60 minutes, and the plan is to play seven levels. PokerNews will be here every step of the way, so make sure you join us.
The clock has now been paused. Just five more hands before it's bagging time.
Several players have built up some monster stacks, and being as these guys are in a position to close out the day as top dog we thought we'd bring some of them to your attention.
Yuefeng Pan played the OPC High Roller, and while he couldn't get anything going in that he has managed to run his Day 1B stack up to 166,000. Pan is playing on the deep stacked table as his neighbor Kimi Dong is sitting on a stack of 197,500, which we believe makes him chip leader with 20-minutes to go.
Other notables on big stacks are Jeho Lee (130,000), though the Korean has just passed some chips the way of Zhou Lin, who made a four card straight with ace-jack to take a bite out of Lee's stack and climb to 187,000 as we were scouting for counts.
Other chunky stacks belong to Gui Fei Zhang (137,000), Lim Hong Peng Po (132,000) and Hsiao Shizi (190,000).

The 170 remaining Day 1B OPC Main Event protagonists are on their last 10-minute break of the day. There is just a single 40-minute level of game time remaining following this before the survivors bag and tag.
Wayne Zhang is pretty lucky to still be alive in this one. He was all-in with for 24,100 against a player holding . The flop was no good for Zhang but the turn sure was, and the river secured him the double up.
We then enquired about the unfortunate player's name, and were told simply his name is Ye. "Y'know, like yeah!" Qinrong Gao said, and before you knew it everyone at the table was bellowing "yeah!"
But Ye himself was quiet. Two hands later he was all-in from the small blind for his last 4,200 holding the , in great shape to double up versus Xia Qing Ji's . But it just wasn't Ye's day today. The board ran out to pair Ji's four, sending Ye to the rail.
Zhang now sits with 50,000, while Ji is on 20,700.

The short-stacked Junfeng Wang was all-in for his last 9,300 with from middle position with neighbor Le Peng Cheng looking him up with .
Wang's fate was in the hands of the poker gods, and it was a good old-fashioned race to boot. It was one that Wang looked to have lost when the flop came down to give Cheng top two. However, the poker gods have a sense of humor and Wang hit the turn to make a set, improving to quads on the river, to appreciative 'ooohs' and 'ahhhhs' from the rest of the table.
That spot of could fortune saw Wang double to 20,000 and Cheng drop to 50,000.
