Wang on the Way Down, Zhang on the Up

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Wayne Zhang
Wayne Zhang

Things are not going Fuk On Wang's way with Wayne Wei Yi Zhang the latest member of the field to take some of his chips. If it continues this way Wang could be heading off, rather than on.

It was Wang who opened the action with a raise to 7,000 from under-the-gun with a player calling in the small blind before Zhang peeked down at his cards in the big blind. They must have been good, as Zhang squeezed to 25,500 to send Wang deep into thought, where he remained for a few minutes. Eventually, he elected to fold, as the small blind, leaving Zhang free to rake in close to 20,000 in blinds and antes, all without showdown.

Xu Sets Up Wang

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Fuk On Wang just took a big hit at the hands of tablemate Yahui Xu, having had the misfortune to find himself on the wrong side of a set over set confrontation. We picked up the action in a three-way hand involving Sheng Chen (UTG+2), Xu (cutoff) and Wang (small blind) with the flop spread {9-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{7-Spades}.

Wang was first to act and had checked the action over to Chen, who led out for 12,000 into a pot of close to 30,000. Xu then re-raised to 30,000 and the action was back on Wang, who looked like he might raise, but then just called. Chen folded to take the action heads-up to a turn of {k-Diamonds} and this is when all the chips went in.

Wang shoved and was called immediately, and while he turned over {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts} he was trailing to Xu's {9-Hearts}{9-Spades} and there was no miracle one-outer on the river. That saw Wang drop to 70,000, while Xu climbed to 200,000.

Yu Outflops Zhu

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Teng Zhu had opened to 8,000 but was then three-bet all-in to 73,000 by Jiangiang Yu. When it folded back to Zhu he asked for a count, and discovered he'd be left with just 6,000 should call and lose. That's exactly what happened.

Zhu matched Yu's shove holding {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}, and that was crushing Yu's {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. But when the dealer laid the flop, the first card in the window was the {9-Clubs}, followed by the {8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} to give Yu a full house. He's up to 153,000 now.

Breaktime

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

The 140 remaining OPC Main Event players have headed off on a 15-minute break while the black 100 chips are colored up and removed from play.

Gao Down and Out, Yim and Leow Up

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Last time we walked passed Wenling Gao's table she was raking in a pot having just doubled up. However, the next time we passed by her seat was empty and she has just bought into the HKD $20,000 King Size Stack Side Event.

Another player whose stack is moving in the right direction is frontrunner Ivan Leow, who seems to be stacking up chips and raking in pots every time we walk by his table and the Malaysian player is now up to 444,000.

Timothy Yim's stack also had an upward trajectory, with the Hong Kong player winning a big pot from tablemate Ying Wang. It was a pre-flop three-bet flop and while we do not know exactly when all the chips went in, we do know that Yim was the man to win. The community cards were spread {10-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{2-Spades}{k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and despite flopping top pair and turning the nut flush draw holding {a-Spades}{6-Spades}, Wang has lost out to Yim's {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} with the Hong Kong player making the Broadway straight on the turn.

Zheng Doubles Through Sukonthchartnant

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Alvan Zheng
Alvan Zheng

Thailand's all-time money winner Phanlert Sukonthchartnant opened the hijack to 5,200 and was flatted by Shizi Xiao in the cutoff. Alvan Zheng looked down at something he liked on the button and shoved for 37,300, which Sukonthchartnant would call. Now the decision was on Xiao.

He clearly liked his hand, too. About a minute went by before he started turning around to try and get a look at the tournament screen. Unfortunately for Xiao, the angle wasn't right and he was forced mid-hand to leave his seat and go up for a closer look. Whatever he saw on that screen, it would lead him to eventually fold.

Sukonthchartnant flipped {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} but that was crushed by Zhang's {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}. The cowboys held after the {3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts} runout, bringing Zheng up to 73,000 and dropping Sukonthchartnant to 140,000.

Zeng Folds Queens Preflop

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Zhuo Zeng's reading skills must be on point, because he just managed to fold pocket queens preflop to a four-bet...and was dead on.

Sihai Jiang had opened under the gun and when it folded to Zeng in the small blind he three-bet to 16,200. Back to Jiang, he four-bet it 40,100 and this sent Zeng into the tank. The clock was eventually called on him, and in the end he'd fold {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} face up.

Perhaps out of courtesy, perhaps out of sheer respect for the fold, Jiang showed {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}, confirming that Zeng had made a good laydown.

Tiang Teases Chan

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Jin Tiang
Jin Tiang

Jin Tiang got all the chips in pre-flop from the blinds over the top of an Andy Chan open and found herself behind and her tournament life at risk.

Jin Tiang: {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Andy Chan: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The {3-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} flop gave Tiang some gutshot outs to go with her one overcard, and while the {q-Diamonds} turn was of no help, the {k-Spades} double paired the river to counterfeit Chan's pocket tens. The Hong Kong player let out a big groan and counted out the chips to pay Tiang off, and she stacked her ill-gotten gains with a grin that would put a Cheshire cat to shame.
