Walton Doubles Through Zhang

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Austin Walton
Austin Walton

Sometimes your tournament life comes down to a toss of a coin. Heads: Wayne Zhang's two overcards win. Tails: Austin Walton's pocket pair holds up.

Zhang had opened to 90,000 from the cutoff before Walton jammed for 730,000 on the button. The blinds folded, and when Zhang got a count he made the call holding {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, up against Walton's {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. The {2-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs}{10-Spades} board ran safe for Walton's pair, doubling him up to 1.57 million and dropping Zhang to 2.15 million.

I guess it's true what they say: tails never fails (although mathematically it does fail half of the time).

Chop, Chop

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

The biggest pot on the final table so far resulted in an anti-climatic chop. It was Xiaobo Zhou up against Ivan Leow, with Zhou the initial raiser, making it 70,000 from the lo-jack before Leow re-raised to 200,000 from the small blind. Zhou thought long and hard but made the call to bring the pair to a flop of {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}.

The action went check, check, and nothing changed on the {9-Diamonds} turn. The {9-Clubs} river gave both players a full house, with Leow leading for 400,000 and Zhou calling. Leow showed {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Zhou {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and the pot was divvied up.

Wing Kei Chan took the blinds and antes after moving all-in for 615,000 but found no customers and Wayne Zhang has stolen the blinds and antes a couple of times, and that's all we have so far.

Leow Edges Forward, Pan Fights Back

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Yuefeng Pan
Yuefeng Pan

Ivan Leow claimed a big pot from Yuefeng Pan when his 300,000 river bet on an ace-high board was called. Leow showed {a-}{j-}, and Pan mucked, giving Leow a 3.2 million chip lead.

Pan would begin to fight back though, opening to 70,000 under the gun and getting two callers in Xiaobo Zhou in the hijack and Leow in the big blind. The flop fell {k-Spades}{5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and Pan continued for 125,000 when it checked to him, which only Zhou would call. That took them to a {10-Spades} turn card, on which Pan moved all-in for 455,000. Zhou gave it some thought, but didn't want to dance with his hand.

Pan is back up to 950,000 now, while Zhou has 1.25 million.

Hui Bubbles Final Table

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Xu Ya Hui
Xu Ya Hui

Just a couple of hands after he folded in that pot against Ivan Leow, Xu Ya Hui has now been eliminated in 11th place.

He open-shoved for 355,000 from the cutoff and Xiaobo Zhou then re-shoved from the small blind. It was {a-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for Hui against Zhou's {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}, and the cowboys held after a {3-Clubs}{j-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{9-Clubs} runout.

Zhou increased to 1.3 million, and the clock is now paused for the final table re-draw. We'll have that for you ASAP.

Pressure Building

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Ivan Leow has more than double the stack of his next opponent at his table, and he's keeping the pressure on all of them.

Xu Ya Hui was the latest to feel it. He opened to 75,000 under the gun and Leow called on the button to see a {4-Hearts}{j-Spades}{q-Spades} flop. Hui opted to check it, and Leow led out for 105,000. Call.

The dealer laid the {5-Diamonds} on the turn which both checked, before the {5-Hearts} completed the board, pairing it too. Hui checked once again, and Leo fired 275,000. That was enough to get a fold from Hui after a couple of minutes thinking.

Back-to-Back Beats for Sukonthachartnant Spells the End

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Phanlert Sukonthachartnant
Phanlert Sukonthachartnant

Thailand's most successful tournament player will not be adding another final table appearance to his poker resume and has just lost another big pot right after the last one against Wing Kei Chan.

It was Chang Bo Feng who opened the action with a raise to 80,000 from late position and Sukonthachartnant made a quick shove. Coming so quickly after the last hand it looked a little steamy but was anything but and Feng looked surprised to see the Thai player roll over the goods after he made the call.

Phanlert Sukonthachartnant: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Chang Bo Feng: {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}

Sukonthachartnant pulled ahead in the race on the {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} turn, but Feng was still drawing live with the {7-Hearts} and just like the last hand disaster struck on the turn, with the {7-Spades} giving Feng a set, which improved to a boat when the {10-Spades} paired the river.

Sukonthachartnant departed shaking his head at the brutal variance of tournament poker while Feng stacked up to 3-million, putting him at the top of the counts.

Chan Straightens Out Sukonthachartnant

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Phanlert Sukonthachartnant has been quiet as of late but just made a call to put Wing Kei Chan at risk. Chan was the short-stack and moved all-in from the button for 305,000 with Sukonthachartnant making a speedy call from the small blind.

Wing Kei Chan: {q-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Phanlert Sukonthachartnant: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Chan looked to be in trouble when the flop fell {10-Spades}{a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} but clearly knew something we did not and remained in his seat. The {k-Spades} turn gave Chan Broadway, with the {7-Spades} completing the double and shooting him up to 640,000 while Sukonthachartnant dropped to 600,000.

Chen Busts to Zhou

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Chuanshu Chen busted in 13th place
Chuanshu Chen busted in 13th place

We missed the majority of the action as we were watching Austin Walton and Chang Bo Feng tangle in a hand (which we shall get to shortly) but Chuanshu Chen's tournament has come to a close, with Xiaobo Zhou the closer.

Chen was one of the shorter stacks and got his last 290,000 in the middle with pocket queens and was looked up by Zhou with ace-king. Chen lost the classic race and headed for the rail in 13th place, with HKD $86,600 for his troubles, while Zhou stacked up to 1,650,000.

With regards to the Feng vs Walton hand, it had all the potential to be a big one but disappointingly fizzled out. It was Feng the man initially driving the action with a raise to 75,000 from the cutoff, with Walton shoving the button for 935,000. Feng thought long and hard and seemed on the fence about calling or folding, eventually deciding on the latter, leaving Walton to scoop the pot unopposed.
