Bohmerwald Hangs On to Leave Mahler on Fumes
Michael Bohmerwald raised to 15,000 in early position and Yousef Zeibaq called on the button. Brian Mahler then moved all in from the small blind and Bohmerwald called, while Zeibaq got out of the way.
Michael Bohmerwald: 10♠10♥
Brian Mahler: A♦Q♣
Bohmerwald spiked a set on the K♦10♦2♣ flop, while Mahler picked up a straight draw. The 4♦ turn also gave Mahler a flush draw, but Bohmerwald held on through the 7♠ river to win the pot.
The stacks were counted down, and Mahler had Bohmerwald's remaining 189,000 covered by just one 5,000 chip.
Defending champion Lucas Vergara was eliminated at the same time on another table. According to Anton Makarevich, Vergara shoved the 10-8-8 flop holding 8-7 for trips, while Makarevich had two kings. Vergara was poised for the double up until Makarevich spiked a king on the river to make a full house.
