Day 2 Completed

A total of 215 entries took to the felt in the $5,300 MILLIONS Finale at the Caribbean Poker Party Festival but just 26 are still standing at the end of Day 2. Leading the way is Pavel Plesuv with 21,950,000, and he's joined by several highly accomplished players, including Adrian Mateos (10,975,000), Koray Aldemir (8,675,000), Kenny Hallaert (9,625,000), and Day 1 chip leader Chris Hunichen (9,075,000). Partypoker Sponsored Pros Anatoly Filatov (7,900,000), Roberto Romanello (5,900,000), and Kristen Bicknell (2,550,000) are still also in the hunt. Additionally, partypoker Head of Poker Tom Waters will take a sizeable 15,700,000-chip stack out of the bag when Day 3 begins.

The field is currently just three spots away from the money since 23 places will be paid. A mincash is good for $10,000 but all eyes are fixed on the $250,000 first prize.

Unfortunately, not all the familiar faces who took their seats for Day 2 action survived to the day's end. Philipp Gruissem, Stephen Chidwick, partypoker Sponsored Pro Marcel Luske, Jack Sinclair, Ari Engel, Sergio Aido, partypoker Sponsored Pro Natalia Breviglieri, Rainer Kempe, and Mike Leah were among the fallen.

Day 2 was scheduled to play out over eight levels but tournament staff elected to add a dinner break and two more levels of play. When play resumes on Saturday at noon local time, blinds will be 100,000/200,000 with a 200,000-chip button ante.

Keep it here for coverage of the remainder of the Caribbean Poker Party Festival presented by the PokerNews Live Reporting team.

Chidwick Eliminated by Hallaert

Level 18 : 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante

Stephen Chidwick was in the small blind and got his stack in the middle before the flop against Kenny Hallaert, who was on the button and had the larger of the two stacks.

Hallaert: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Chidwick: {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Hallaert had the preflop advantage and Chidwick needed help from the deck in order to survive. The board ran out {A-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} to pair Hallaert's ace and he took the pot to eliminate Chidwick.

Nomura's Aces Are Good

Level 18 : 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante

There was a substantial pot of about 1,400,000 already brewing and the board read {Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{8-Hearts} when we got to the table. Renato Nomura checked from the small blind to his lone opponent, Conor Beresford in the big blind. Beresford bet 850,000 and Nomura called.

The {7-Spades} fell on the river and both players checked. Nomura tabled {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}, Beresford mucked, and the dealer pushed the pot to Nomura.

Requena Takes from Gruissem

Level 17 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante

Raul Martinez Requena raised to 250,000 from the button and Philipp Gruissem called from the big blind.

The flop came {J-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and Gruissem check-called a bet of 225,000 from Requena.

The turn brought the {Q-Hearts} and both players checked.

The river was the {J-Clubs} and Gruissem checked. Requena bet 800,000, sending Gruissem into the tank. He eventually called, Requena tabled {Q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, Gruissem mucked, and the dealer pushed the pot Requena's way.
