The Money Bubble Bursts to End Day 2 with Sonay Kehya in the Lead

Level 16 : 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
Sonay Kehya leads field into Day 3
Sonay Kehya leads field into Day 3

Day 2 of the 2017 partypoker LIVE German Poker Championship €2,200 Main Event ended after eight levels of 60 minutes each and reduced the remaining field to the last 100 hopefuls while the money bubble burst in the last hand of level 16. The remaining fields of all three Day 1s at Europe's biggest poker arena, the King's Casino in Rozvadov, were combined and online qualifiers from partypoker joined in on the action. The registration and re-entry period lasted until the end of the dinner break after the fourth level of the day and 440 million in chips were in play.

It was charismatic Czech poker pro Martin Kabrhel who would be left empty-handed when his three-bet shove with ace-eight was called by Philipp Gruissem with ace-king. The remaining two aces appeared on the board and the kicker played to eliminate Kabrhel as last player without anything to show for. Gruissem bagged up 12,450,000, good enough for second place overnight behind Dutchman Sonay Kehya with 14,530,000, while Day 1a chip leader Friedrich Raz once again bagged big with 11,200,000.

Two partypoker sponsored pros reached Day 3 in Anatoly Filatov (10,600,000) and Natalia Breviglieri (6,655,000). Breviglieri already reached the final table of the partypoker LIVE Million here in Rozvadov back in June 2017, finishing 6th for a payday of €32,500.

Other notables and big stacks still in contention for the €200,000 first-place payout are Grzegorz Idziak (10,580,000), Frank de Busscher (9,970,000), Josef Gulas (9,130,000), Gerald Karlic (9,115,000), Victor Tyurin (9,000,000), Marek Blasko (8,340,000), Matthias De Meulder (8,130,000), Sandro Pitzanti (7,100,000), Click & Collect qualifier Enrique B. (4,375,000) and former World Series of Poker Main Event runner-up Martin Staszko (4,375,000).

Among those to bust throughout Day 2 were partypoker ambassador Boris Becker, start-of-the-day chip leader Victor Langlitz, the partypoker sponsored pros Kristen Bicknell, Marcel Luske and Jan-Peter Jachtmann, Jack Sinclair, Julian Thomas, Manig Loeser, Jeff Lisandro, Ismael Bojang, Paul Michaelis, Kenny Hallaert and Erich Kollmann.

Becker lost plenty of chips early on and was gone before the field headed into the dinner break, while Bicknell re-entered and ran with pocket nines into aces. Jachtmann had a healthy stack until two hands against pocket deuces spelled his end. The German three-bet a raise by Marek Blasko and fired flop and turn of a king-high board with ace-king for top pair and top kicker, before calling Blasko's shove with the vast majority of his stack already committed to find himself up against a set. Luske missed out on the money by just a few spots when his top pair on the flop was no good against the pocket aces of Ivo Donev.

Right after the money bubble had burst, the remaining 100 players bagged up and will return at 12 p.m. noon local time for Day 3. Action recommences in level 17 with blinds of 60,000/120,000 and a button ante of 120,000, another eight levels of 60 minutes each are scheduled on the penultimate tournament day before the winner will be crowned on Monday, August 13th 2017.

As usual, the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to provide all the action.
