The Poker Masochist
Former Genting Poker Series champion Ali Ayub has always shown up for the big tournaments at Dusk Till Dawn and the Grand Prix UK this weekend is no exception. He was one of our chipleaders going into this hand, opening under the gun to 21,000. Piotr Szymczak called next to act and, with the action folded all the way round, James Gardner called off the extra from the big blind.
Action checked round on the flop, and again on the turn. With Gardner and Ayub both having checked the river as well, Szymczak took a 50k stab. Gardner folded without too much hesitation, however Ayub was not so easily convinced.
He turned to his opponent. "It's either a backdoor flush or ace high, right? Do you have a flush, sir? You're allowed to have a flush."
"I have to do it; it's the masochist within," sigh Ayub as he called. Szymczak revealed the for the ace high blocker, but not much else. Ayub whipped over his , clearly gleeful after having made the correct read. He is now level for the chip lead along with Luke Fields and Ian Morris.
