Upeshka De Silva Bags Big at the End of Day 2 of the partypoker MILLION North America Main Event! (full)

Level 18 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Upeshka De Silva
Upeshka De Silva

Just like that, Day 2 of the partypoker MILLION North America Main Event has come to an end, with 173 players finding the bottom of a bag to move on to Day 3 tomorrow at noon local time. The official chip leader going into Day 2 is James Romero, sitting on 19,655,000 chips. Close behind him is WSOP bracelet winner Upeshka De Silva (18,525,000), with Karim Abdelhamid (17,970,000) rounding out the top three.

The day began with 422 players set to start, but that number quickly grew due to the fact that registration re-opened for two more 75-minute levels. There were 42 direct Day 2 entries to begin with, but this number quickly grew to a total of 128, with an additional 33 re-entries before registration closed for good.

A total of 1,168 entries made up a prizepool of CA$5,709,750, surpassing the CA$5,000,000 guarantee by a good margin. As it turns out, this event broke the record for biggest prizepool in Canada, beating out the CA$10,000 WPT Fallsview event back in 2007, which gathered a prizepool of just over $5.1 million.

First place for this event is locked in at an even CA$1,000,000, with a min-cash of CA$10,000. A detailed breakdown of the prizepool can be found under the Payouts tab above. Here is a look at the final table payouts:

A number of notable players have moved on to Day 3, including partypoker pros Sam Trickett (12,200,000), and Tony Dunst (1,195,000). World Poker Tour Champion, and first woman to win an open WPT event, Ema Zajmovic, bagged a hefty stack of 15,735,000, good for fifth in chips, looking to secure another title right here on her home turf.

Joseph Sicko won his seat through a Twitter contest via partypoker and bagged a healthy 14,745,000 chips. Other players who are in contention include Michael Addamo (11,375,000), Darren Elias (10,305,000), Christian Harder (10,185,000), Jason Koon (10,120,000), High Roller Champion Mike McDonald (4,910,000), Cate Hall (4,870,000), and Ryan Riess (740,000).

In addition to familiar players moving on, there was a ton of talent that made it through today but didn't manage to bag a stack, including Mike Sexton, Kristen Bicknell, Maria Ho, Kitty Kuo, Mike Leah, and Jonathan Duhamel.

With the money bubble looming, look for players to either be making big moves or staying super snug. Here is a look at the table draw for Day 3:

Maria Ho

Action folded around to Maria Ho on the button and she moved all in for 850,000 on the button. Viet Van Vo was sitting with a mountain of chips in front of him and decided to call.

Vo: {j-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Ho: {q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

Ho was ahead, but not by much. The flop came {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, putting Vo in the lead with top two pair, but Ho also flopped an open-ended straight draw.

The turn was the {5-Diamonds} and the river was the {7-Clubs}, ending Ho's run in this event just before the end of the day.

Xuan Liu appeared to be all in for 1,210,000 from under the gun, and her opponent in middle position had 300,000 in front of him, facing a bet of 910,000 more to call. He went into the tank and eventually called.

Liu was miles ahead with {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} as her opponent tabled {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

The flop came {4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Liu looked fairly happy about it. The turn was the {j-Diamonds}, and her opponent picked up some outs to win.

The river was the {5-Hearts} and Liu was able to hold on.

Cate Hall is Building

Level 14 : 20,000/40,000, 4,000 ante
Dzmitry Urbanovich - Cate Hall
Dzmitry Urbanovich - Cate Hall

Cate Hall made a deep run in the High Roller a couple of days ago, finishing in 11th place, just a couple of spots from the final table. She looks for redemption here in the $5,300 Main Event, and has chipped up a little and held her own since the day started.

In a recent hand, Hall called an all in before the flop and she held the best of it with {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}. Her opponent tabled {k-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for about 700,000 chips, and had a slim chance of winning the hand when the flop came {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}{9-Hearts}, giving Hall a set of nines. Hall's opponent was drawing dead when the {5-Spades} hit the turn, and the insignificant {6-Diamonds} hit the river.

Hall has now run her stack up to five million chips as the dinner break approaches.

Dilovan Hussein
Dilovan Hussein

Dilovan (George) Hussein, from Edmonton, Alberta, is the first player to cross the 10,000,000 chip line. Hussein came in to the day as one of the chip leaders and he has carried his momentum over from Day 1a.

Along with his large stack of chips comes a large personality. Hussein is sporting his Edmonton Oilers gear and has not let up on the chatter at the table, saying "If you can't handle the heat, then this isn't the room for you!" Hussein made the final table of the partypoker Grand Prix just last week, finishing in 8th place, and is also coming off a fourth place finish at WPT Fallsview just a few months ago, collecting over $100,000 for his biggest career cash. Look for Hussein to continue to break personal records right here at Playground Poker.

Over a Billion Chips in Play!

Level 12 : 12,000/24,000, 2,500 ante

While the number of entries has now reached 1,148, and the starting stack for a direct buy in is 1,000,000 chips, some players entered the field with less than a starting stack due to the Phase 1 qualifiers.

That being said, the number of chips in play currently sits at 1,122,500,000. That's over a billion in chips! That number is sure to grow with registration open for one more level.
