The Three Short Stacks Fall in Succession

Level 28 : 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante

Joao Simao was the first of the short stacks to be eliminated and he sent his remaining chips to the direction of Mustapha Kanit. Just moments later, Guillaume Diaz got his last 14.7 million chips in the middle with {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and was up against the {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} of Roberto Romanello. The flop came {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Romanello out-flopped Diaz's kings. The {10-Clubs} on the turn and the {7-Clubs} on the river changed nothing to eliminate Diaz in sixth place.

Not long after, Daniel Dvoress raised on the button and Garik Tamasian shoved all in for his last 7.5 million in the big blind. Dvoress made a quick call and the cards were tabled. Dvoress held {4-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Tamasian had two overcards with {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. The flop of {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs} gave Tamasian the better flush draw but the {j-Hearts} on the turn and the {9-Spades} on the river bricked out as he hit the rail in fifth place.

Mateos Runs Into Aces

Level 28 : 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante
Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos

Adrian Mateos opened to 1.2 million in the hijack and Daniel Dvoress just flat-called on the button. The flop came {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} and Mateos continued for 2.8 million. Dvoress called and the {k-Hearts} landed on the turn.

Both players checked and the {6-Hearts} completed the board. Mateos used a time extension before shipping all in for around 8.4 million. Dvoress quickly looked back at his cards and made the call. Mateos tabled {k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} but Dvoress held {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} for a better two pair.

Dvoress recently took a chunk of chips from Roberto Romanello and with the recent influx from Mateos, he is not holding a commanding chip lead over the rest of the field.

Three-Horse Race

Level 27 : 250,000/500,000, 500,000 ante

Justin Bonomo made it 1.1 million in early position and was called by Daniel Dvoress on the button and Garik Tamasian in the big blind. The flop came {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and Tamasian checked to Bonomo who continued for 1.3 million. Dvoress called while Tamasian stepped aside.

The turn brought the {3-Hearts} and Bonomo stuck in a bet of 5.2 million. Dvoress used a time extension before calling to see the {2-Clubs} on the river. Bonomo checked and Dvoress instantly checked it back. Bonomo tabled {j-Spades}{j-Clubs} and Dvoress slid his cards to the muck.

Between Bonomo, Mustapha Kanit, and Roberto Romanello, they are starting to make this contest a three-horse race. Those three players hold over half of the chips in play with eight players still remaining.

Romanello Moves to the Top

Level 26 : 200,000/400,000, 400,000 ante

With the average stack still at over 50 big blinds, nobody is really in jeopardy of being eliminated anytime soon. There is a $15,000 pay jump that the players are aware of as nine-handed play continues.

Roberto Romanello has slowly been increasing his stack with each passing level. He has recently surpassed Mustapha Kanit for the overall chip lead while Adrian Mateos has slipped to the short stack.

Up and Down for Pollak

Level 25 : 175,000/350,000, 300,000 ante
Benjamin Pollak
Benjamin Pollak

Benjamin Pollak opened to 700,000 from middle position and Garik Tamasian three-bet to 3,575,000 in the big blind. Pollak used up a time extension and then shoved all in, prompting a snap-call from Tamasian for his remaining stack of 8,625,000. Pollak held {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} but ran into the {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} of Tamasian. The board ran out {7-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and Tamasian scored a double up.

A couple of hands later, Justin Bonomo raised to 1,000,000 on the button and Pollak defended from the big blind. The flop fell {q-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds} and Pollak shoved all in for 1,825,000. Bonomo did some quick math in his head and then made the call. Pollak showed {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and was ahead of Bonomo's {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. The {2-Clubs} on the turn and the {4-Spades} on the river changed nothing as Pollak survived elimination.
