Speranza Still Crushing

Level 5 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Gianluca Speranza remains absolutely on fire as he has over 4.7 million, putting him past the biggest stacks that have been bagged to this point. Speranza broke out in a big way with a second-place finish last year at WSOPE for €689,246.

He rolled those winning ways over to partypoker LIVE events in 2018, first getting 10th at partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Germany €5,300 Main Event for €40,000 then taking second in the £10,300 High Roller at partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Dusk Till Dawn for £193,000.

Meanwhile, the tournament is nearing the 900-entry mark, putting it about 1,100 short of meeting the $10 million guarantee.

Stellar Start for Speranza

Level 4 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

With only 130,000 in the pot, a player in the small blind bet 200,000 on {2-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Gianluca Speranza called in the big blind. A third player in the pot mucked and they went heads up to {5-Clubs}. The small blind checked and Speranza bet 325,000. That was met with a check-raise to 800,000 that was quickly called by Speranza. On the {9-Diamonds} river, the small blind grabbed all of his chips but then checked. Speranza set him in by betting 800,000 but he took the pot without showdown.

With nearly 4 million as the players head to their second break, the Italian has put himself in fantastic position as he's not far behind the biggest stacks to bag thus far through the first two flights.

Field Inches Past 800

Level 4 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Level 3 : 3,000/7,000, 7,000 ante

With {q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} on the felt, Calvin Anderson checked and Will Givens bet 300,000 into a pot of 550,000. Anderson craned his neck to get a look at Givens' remaining chips, which amounted to only another 100,000 or so.

"So, you're committed?" Anderson asked.

"I'd like to say so," Givens replied with a laugh. "Can I show you a card?"

"You're gonna show me like...the jack of diamonds."

Givens flashed the {j-Diamonds} with a smile.

"Every time you show that card I'm smashed," Anderson mused.

He gave it up and Givens swept up the pot, with Anderson returning the favor showing the {a-Diamonds}.

With just about 800 players having registered the event in total, 1,200 or so are still needed to make the guarantee.

Blazing Start for Elias

Level 2 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Darren Elias

Darren Elias has nearly three starting stacks in front of him. The American WPT legend just got some big value when a small blind opponent checked to him on {k-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. With about 220,000 in the pot, Elias tossed in 175,000 on the button. His opponent thought only briefly before calling but couldn't beat {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} for aces up, showing his {k-}{j-}.
