Sheils Leads the Final Nine of the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK Open

Level 32 : 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante
Brandon Sheils

Brandon Sheils will return as the final table chip leader when the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK £1,100 Open resumes action at noon on Wednesday, October 3.

After ten 50-minute levels of poker was played, the 46 returning Day 3 players were reduced to the final nine on a day that featured a royal flush, two brothers battling and a 175,000,000 chip pot won with just ace-high.

Sheils bagged an impressive 253,500,000 and will have a significant advantage over his nearest challengers Rory Liffey (162,000,000) and Artur Gjoka (140,500,000). Daniel Rezaei, who earlier in the day witnessed his brother Armin Rezaei depart in 31st place, bagged 130,000,000.

The final table line-up is completed by Iaron Lightbourne (93,500,000), Dean Hutchison (80,000,000), Anthony Wickert (56,500,000), Tom Smith (54,000,000) and partypoker pro Anatoly Filatov (36,500,000).

Action of the day

Filatov will return as the final table short stack, but he will be happy just to be there after he was all set to be eliminated within the first 90 minutes of play today. The Russian was all-in with king-jack and ran into not only Paul McTaggart's ace-king but also the aces of Sheils. The flop came jack-high to give Filatov some hope, and by some miracle, the river hit his king for two pair, and he won the main pot to survive, with Sheils taking a big side pot against McTaggart.

Unlike Filatov, Jack Sinclair and partypoker pro Natalia Breviglieri had no luck and departed earlier during the day.

Then there was a hand that is very rarely seen as Paul Michaelis hit a full house with ace-queen only to see the pot go to Jurgen Brenner who had achieved a remarkable royal flush holding jack-ten of clubs. The board was down ace-eight-queen-king-queen when Michaelis moved all in from the big blind on the river only to see Brenner snap-call. The table was in shock when the two hands were revealed and Brenner moved up to 50,000,000. However, the German was unable to continue in the same vein and departed in 24th place.

Another shock happened as start-of-day chip leader Andrew Haygarth exited in 21st place after doing battle with fellow big stack Gjoka. Haygarth had hit a flush but found out it was no good when the two players got all their chips into the middle on the river and Gjoka revealed he had hit a full house on the last card.

Gjoka continued to rise up in the chip counts but also had a 100,000,000 chip swing at one point. However, the Albanian pulled it back in one of the most memorable hands of the day. Up against Joe Parsons on a six-seven-ten-jack-six board, Gjoka decided to check-raise a bet of 20,000,000 to 68,000,000, enough to put Parsons all-in. The latter had to use a time bank card to think but ultimately made the call with his tournament life on the line. Gjoka said "good call" to his opponent and was all set to muck before he tabled ace-queen for just ace-high. But Parsons delayed showing his hand, and Gjoka was amazed when his opponent mucked and told the table he held ace-nine also for ace-high with a lower kicker. Gjoka celebrated his unconventional victory and was once again among the big stacks.

Adam Daniel, John Haigh, Chris Da-Silva, and Mark Dyson all departed after Parsons' exit, and the remaining nine played out the final 50-minute level with little action.

Play will resume at noon with all the action being streamed on mypartypokerlive.com. PokerNews will be providing updates in keeping with the delayed stream, and more information will be posted before the start of play tomorrow.

Check back in then as the final nine battle for the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK Open title and the £180,000 first-place prize.

Daniel Rezaei raised to 4.5m from under the gun and saw Mark Dyson move all in for 30m from the button. Artur Gjoka called in the big blind before Rezaei moved all in for 85m total.

Gjoka went into the tank for three minutes using three time bank cards mulling over his decision before he opted to fold.

Daniel Rezaei: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Mark Dyson: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Board: {5-Hearts}{q-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

Dyson went further behind on the flop when Rezaei hit a set and Dyson's tournament was ended on the turn when Rezaei hit quads.

Dyson takes away £8,500 for his efforts, while Rezaei moved up to 140m.

The final nine is now set, and players will take a short five-minute break before play resumes on the final table.

Chris Da-Silva
Chris Da-Silva

Chris Da-Silva has just lost two hands in a row to exit the Open in 11th place.

In the first hand, Da-Silva and Rory Liffey got all their chips in preflop for a pot worth nearly 180m with their table five-handed. Da-Silva held {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} in the cutoff and Liffey held {k-Hearts}{k-Spades} in the big blind.

The board fell {j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}, and Liffey took the biggest pot of the day so far, and Da-Silva was left with just 15m.

In the next hand, Da-Silva was all in with {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and ran into Brandon Sheils' pocket queens. Sheils held to swoop the pot and Da-Silva was eliminated to claim his £8,500 cash.

Joe Parsons Eliminated in 14th Place (£7,750)

Level 30 : 700,000/1,400,000, 1,400,000 ante

The completed board was down {6-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, and Artur Gjoka checked from middle position to Joe Parsons who was on the button. The pot was around the 55m mark at this point and Parsons bet 20m. Gjoka took his time to think before he pushed a stack worth 68m into the middle, which was enough to put Parsons all in.

Parsons went into thinking mode and used a time bank card for an additional minute on the clock.

"That could be a bad river card," said Parsons while he thought.

With the minute rapidly decreasing Parsons decided to call.

"Nice call," said Gjoka. "Ace high" he added with his cards in his hand and hovering in the air before he tabled them to reveal {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}.

But Parsons didn't turn over his cards straight away and winced.

"No way!" exclaimed Gjoka, as Parsons mucked his hand and announced he held ace-nine before he departed the table in 15th place.

A surprised Gjoka pulled in the pot and celebrated as he moved up to 200m for the first time.

Elsewhere, Gordon Huntly was eliminated in 15th place for £7,000.

Gjoka Eliminates Watson to Extend His Lead at the Top

Nathan Watson
Nathan Watson

Nathan Watson was happy to get all his chips into the middle against current chip leader Artur Gjoka, and the former came off worse.

Watson's stack was being moved in Gjoka's direction when we got to the table and in front of him was pocket eights. But Gjoka held pocket nines, and the board didn't help Watson get out of trouble.

Watson departs with £6,250 as Gjoka takes another big step towards being the first player to hit 200m.

Lightbourne Hits Trips and Wins Big Against

Level 28 : 500,000/1,000,000, 1,000,000 ante
Iaron Lightbourne

The board was down {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and Daniel Rezaei, in the big blind, had check-called a 9.8m from Iaron Lightbourne who was on the button.

The river card was revealed to be the {7-Hearts} and after Rezaei checked Lightbourne moved all in for 26m. At this point, Rezaei went into the tank, and one by one uses his final three-time cards to gain an extra minute of thinking time each as he contemplated his decision.

"This could be a sick, sick call man," said Rezaei while thinking, but Lightbourne remained silent.

With just five seconds left before his hand was declared dead Rezaei called and Lightbourne tabled {k-Hearts}{q-Spades} for trip queens. Rezaei looked defeated and flipped over {8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for two pair.

Lightbourne clawed in the mammoth pot and moved up to 85m.
