Day: 1

partypoker Sunday LIVE is Finished for Another Weekend

It was a fast day here at partypoker Sunday LIVE today, as all three feature games played down very quickly. The Grand, which the first to get underway, is also traditionally the longest. This weekend was no different, but even The Grand was an hour shorter this week than last, at about 8.5 hours. Both The Sunday 500 and The Weekender Final Day clocked in at about 6.5 hours of play.

The Grand

The Grand is now complete, and Nicolas Maillaud from the Czech Republic has taken it down for a score of more than $41,000. Maillaud spent much of the final table in second place in chips, behind leader Simon Mattsson, but Maillaud took Mattsson out in 3rd, and then marched on to the win.

Sergio Aido survived for a couple of levels heads-up, and managed to double into a position where another double would put hom ahead, but it wasn't to be. Aido had to settle for just under $30,000 for second place, wile Mattsson won just over $20,000 for 3rd.

Formula 1 Driver Daniel Ricciardo Knows When to Pit

McLaren Racing
McLaren Racing

McLaren Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo knows what it's like to operate at peak performance. Both he and his car need to operate at the outer limits of their ability on race day to stand a chance of winning, or even making it to the end of the race. But he also understands that being at your peak means being in control.

At the poker tables, players don't need to worry about spinning off the track into the wall from a momentary lapse of concentration, or a tire blowout at 200 kph because they didn't pull into the pits. But every poker player has experienced some proverbial version of those when they lose control and don't know when to take a break to fix the machinery.

"Only when we're in control are we in charge of our own race," Ricciardo in a recent video. "It's sometimes important to hold back, take a break and take stock. It's important to know when it's time to pit."

Gambling and Auto-racing have a lot in common as McLaren Driver Ricciardo explains
