Welcome back to PokerNews's live coverage of the partypoker US Network Online Series with Event #7: $535 Six-Max PKO $25K GTD, set to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET.

All within New Jersey are able to play across the three platforms of partypoker US, Borgata Poker and BetMGM Poker are eligible to compete.

This event is a Progressive Knockout format meaning, $250 of each player's buy-in will go towards the prize pool while the remaining $250 will be placed atop their head as a bounty.

Each time a player is knocked out, half of their bounty will be awarded to their assailant while the other half will be added to that player's own total bounty.

Starting stacks are 75,000 with blinds beginning at 150/300 and an ante of 40. Anyone who is knocked out will have the opportunity to re-enter as many times as they wish through the first 15 levels of play.

Levels are set to last 10 minutes each through the first four hours of play, meaning two-and-a-half hours of late registration will be available for all who wish to enter after play begins. From that point, blinds increase to 12 minutes for the rest of the tournament.

Bracelet Winner Daniel “centrfieldr23” Lupo Discusses partypoker US Network Win

Daniel Lupo
Daniel Lupo

The partypoker US Online Network – which is comprised of partypoker US, Borgata Poker and BetMGM Poker – has been gaining momentum in New Jersey, most recently with last month's WPT Online Borgata Series.

One player who has been doing quite well on the site is bracelet winner Daniel “centrfieldr23” Lupo, 37, of West Milford, New Jersey. You might recall that last summer, Lupo topped a 1,767-entry field to win the WSOP.com Online $500 NLH Turbo Deepstack for $145,274 and a gold bracelet. Earlier this year, he added a ring to his résumé by taking down the WSOP.com Online Circuit Event #3: $320 NLH 6-Max for $32,595 and a month later won the WSOP.com $100,000 GTD Sunday for $50,715.

A couple months ago, Lupo’s success continued when he bested a 305-entry field to win the partypoker US Network Online Series $50K GTD NLH 6-Max Main Event for $14,792.

PokerNews caught up with Lupo, who went to NJIT for Architecture and baseball, to ask him about poker, which he squeezes in between working for an Architecture firm in Bridgewater specializing in single-family residential and smaller commercial projects and his family, which includes three kids ages 2-5 and his supportive wife Laura.

Q&A with Daniel “centrfieldr23” Lupo

PokerNews: When and how did you learn to play poker?

Lupo: I started playing/learning in college during the Rounders and Moneymaker boom with a bunch of the baseball guys. Within a year I found myself hosting games at college, at home on breaks and basically anywhere I could find or make a game. I didn’t play much online early on, regrettably.

What sort of poker do you play these days?

Mostly online MTTs playing like three sessions per week on average with buy-ins typically from $50 to $1k with the occasional $2-$3k buy in for a big event. I average around 500-600 MTTs a month despite not playing full time, I tend to put in a lot of volume when I’m on. The games are mostly NLH and some PLO MTTs, but love when StarsNJ runs a series as they run a fun 8-Game MTT with a bunch of other mixed variants.

What’s it like to play poker while raising young children?

It’s been a constant evolution. I could probably write a book about all the highs and lows and life adjustments I’ve had or chose to make. It gives me a lot of inspiration to succeed while also adding some weight to my losses as it's like 'not only was I way from my kids for all of Sunday afternoon but I lost (insert obnoxious Sunday schedule cost here)'.

What are some of your poker goals?

Try and win everything I play. Actually, my biggest current goal is trying to optimize my MTT game selection. Since quarantine began the schedules have been exploding site to site and while it's been great, with lots of new players and lots of live players playing online it has also drastically increased my average buy-ins and session costs as well as the field size which further increases variance.

I'm trying to optimize the balance of table quantity and expected value vs individual session costs and the variance that comes with it. Having an average buy-in of $250 adds up pretty quickly when it's spread across 60+ entries on a Sunday. My biggest ongoing and long-term goal is to win enough to help my family live comfortably.

How did it feel to take down the partypoker US Network Phased Main Event last month?

I was pretty stoked about the partypoker US win. I love their structure and it was a very tough field when we were deep; I was fortunate to run pretty well and the be able to leverage my chip stack at the final table. I had made a bunch of top 18 runs in their series Main Events but couldn't crack a solid finish lately so this felt a little extra special.

Sewing Wins With Aggression

In Level 2 with blinds of 200/400 and an ante of 60, "Rikishi" raised to 880 from the cutoff, Mike “MistaMenza” Menzer called from the button and Dan “mj23style” Sewing three-bet to 3,960 from the small blind.

Only Menzer called to see a {7-Hearts}{9-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop and he called Sewing's 4,965 continuation bet.

Once the {5-Diamonds} appeared on the turn, Sewing fired out a 9,900 bet and the price was too steep for Menzer as he mucked his hand.

Yahoo Sports and BetMGM Announce Innovative New Features to Enhance Sports Betting Experience

BetMGM
BetMGM

Yahoo Sports, announced today two new features on Yahoo Sportsbook designed to enhance the betting experience powered by BetMGM for users of legal age in eligible states, including streamlining the registration and onboarding experience between the Yahoo Sports app and BetMGM and adding player prop odds to Yahoo Fantasy.

The new features follow the rollout of Yahoo’s innovative immersive product offerings for the 2020-21 football season, Watch Together and one of a kind augmented reality experiences that continue to enhance the fans' experience across Yahoo Sports and the Yahoo Sports app.

“At Yahoo Sports we are continuing to provide new ways for sports fans to go beyond engaging with content and interact in a seamless way with the sports that they love,” said Geoff Reiss, GM of Yahoo Sports. “The new features continue to enhance our fan’s experience and as we continue to reimagine the future of sports.”

In streamlining the BetMGM registration process, Yahoo Sports users are now able to use their Yahoo account to seamlessly register and sign-in to their BetMGM account. After registering for a BetMGM account, Yahoo Sports users can place bets with BetMGM without having to download the BetMGM app

The new features on Yahoo Sportsbook also allow Yahoo Fantasy users in eligible states to start seeing available player prop odds on the players tab and player card within the Yahoo Fantasy app and several locations on the web. Users will be able to place corresponding bets on the BetMGM platform. In addition, BetMGM is introducing unique player prop odds based on fantasy point totals, leveraging Yahoo’s fantasy scoring system.

Matt Prevost, BetMGM Chief Marketing Officer said, “Since announcing our partnership with Yahoo in 2019 we’ve worked closely together to produce great sports betting content and are excited to have new product features and a much easier integration with BetMGM for Yahoo’s Sportsbook and Fantasy users to enjoy.”

The sports betting integrations on Yahoo Sports touch a wide variety of sports including college and professional football and basketball, baseball, hockey and more.

Yahoo Sportsbook powered by BetMGM combines BetMGM’s world-class sports betting and interactive platform with Yahoo Sports’ history and best-in-class gaming platform and elevates the experience for sports fans, getting them closer to the games they’re passionate about and closing the loop from content to transactions. Yahoo users in New Jersey, Indiana, West Virginia, and Colorado are eligible to place bets on BetMGM, with additional states to follow.

Verizon Media and BetMGM entered into a multi-year strategic relationship in October 2019. The partnership builds upon Verizon Media’s core strategy to connect content and discovery to transactions, and is a natural extension of Yahoo Sports’ mission to reimagine the sports experience for fans with unprecedented experiences. The additional features on Yahoo Sportsbook create more direct opportunities for users to discover, interact and transact on their interests on the BetMGM platform.

Download the Yahoo Sports app on iOS or Google Play, the Yahoo Fantasy app on iOS or Google Play, or visit Sports.Yahoo.com to get started.
