BANSAI!!!

Moments before the break, Praz Bansi eliminated Team PokerStars Mexico Pro J.C. Alvarado from the main event, catapulting himself to the very top of the leaderboard. Our own Mickey Doft was on the scene recording the following details:

Bansi opened the pot with a standard raise before the flop from early position and Alvarado made the call from the big blind. The flop came down {Q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and Alvarado passed the first action to Bansi who fired a continuation bet of 7,000. Alvarado then check-raised to 21,000 and Bansi responded with a three-bet to 45,000. Alvarado answered with another raise, kicking it up to 90,000 -- and understandably so, as he held the mortal nuts -- {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. Bansi just called the four-bet.

When the dealer burned and turned the {4-Clubs}, Alvarado checked to Bansi who moved all in; he had Alvarado covered. Alvarado made the call for the rest of his chips -- a little over 200,000 -- only to see Bansi turn over {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a turned flush.

The river blanked, ({5-Diamonds}), and Bansi's flush held up to take down what was the biggest pot of the day, bringing him to a field-leading 720,000 in chips.

Turbo Update

Daniel Negreanu on Day 1a of the main event
Daniel Negreanu on Day 1a of the main event
Our own Gloria Balding reports that Daniel Negreanu has just doubled through to 80,200 in chips after besting an opponent's {A-?}{Q-Clubs} with his own {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. Negreanu spiked two pair, aces and nines, on the flop to secure the double up.

Baker Warming Up

"Mandy B" doubling up
"Mandy B" doubling up
Amanda Baker has just doubled her way back out of the danger zone. Baker got it in with {A-Hearts} {A-Spades} against an opponent's unknown hand. We walked up just in time to see the river fall on a board of {5-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {J-Diamonds}. With her Broadway straight, Baker has increased her stack to about 95,000.

From Above to Below

Kevin “BeLOWaBOVe” Saul has just been eliminated from the main event by his Day 2 nemesis, Sergey Serafimov.

A short-stacked Saul got the last of his chips into the middle holding {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and was looked up by Serafimov who held {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}.

The ensuing board ran out {3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Serafimov's king-queen held up to claim the pot and eliminate Saul from the tournament.

After the hand, Serafimov stacked up 270,000 in chips.

Amit Finds His Ace

With a raise in front of him, Amit Makhija moved all in for his last 97,000 chips. His opponent thought it over long and hard before making the call with the covering stack, and Makhija was now at risk. And trailing:

Showdown
Makhija: {A-Hearts} {J-Clubs}
Opponent: {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs}

The flop would find Makhija as it rolled out {A-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}. The turn and river came safe-safe, the {8-Clubs} and {8-Hearts} respectively, and the young pro comes from behind to notch a big double up. He's sitting just under 200,000 chips now with about 20 minutes left in Day 2.
