Ivey Poisoned

A chip-less Ivey
A chip-less Ivey
We walked back over to Table Ivey to see the Great One sitting with a dejected frown on his face. Okay, that's not exactly unusual, but we also realized that he had just three little yellowbirds left in his stack, a total of 3,000 chips. We noticed Bill Gazes stacking up, so we asked him what happened.

Gazes laughed and turned away, not wanting to spill the beans. "Okay," he finally said. "But feel free to change this if you want." Here's the dirty:

Ivey was in middle position, and he opened the pot to 28,000. Gazes looked down at {K-?} {J-?} offsuit and moved all in for about 150,000 total. After a few lost pots, Ivey had Gazes just barely covered, and he made the call to put the tallest man in the world at risk of elimination. Ivey tabled {A-?} {Q-?}, looking to hold up and eliminate his dangerous foe. But alas, Gazes managed to pair his king to stay alive, doubling up over 300,000 and leaving Ivey with barely enough chips to shuffle.

Ivey's remaining 2,000 went into the next pot, and the small and big blind checked it down through a board running {Q-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {7-Spades} {5-Diamonds}. The big blind showed a pair with {J-Clubs} {6-Hearts}, and Ivey slid his cards into the muck. "Where do I get paid?" was the last thing he said as he picked his way through the spectators and out the door.
