Phillips Crippled

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

With about 10,500 in the pot and a board reading {7-Hearts}{9-Spades}{J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}, Carter Phillips bet 4,200 from under the gun and was called by his opponent in Seat 4. When the river came the {K-Spades}, Phillips bet 7,300 only to have Seat 4 raise to 15,000.

Phillips was clearly upset with the situation and tanked a long five minute before reluctantly making the call, leaving himself only 8,200 behind. Seat 4 didn't show his cards right away, giving the impression that he was beat, so Carter flipped his {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} assuming he was good. Seat 4 then revealed {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a rivered straight. The slowroll clearly did not sit well with Carter and he was visibly upset.

Duhamel Ships It To Vivek

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Jonathan Duhamel - Out
Jonathan Duhamel - Out

Just before the break, Jonathan Duhamel opened to 1,600 on the button and Vivek Rajkumar called from the big blind. The flop came down {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and Rajkumar checked. Duhamel bet 2,325 and Rajkumar calmly put in over 25,000, covering the rest of Duhamel's stack. After a few moments Duhamel called all in for about 20,000, but was very unhappy to see Rajkumar table {7-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

Why was Duhamel upset? His {7-Spades}{3-Spades} was absolutely crushed. The {10-Hearts} turn card gave him a few outs to a chop, but the river was the {5-Clubs}, bringing the reigning WSOP Main Event Champion's tournament an end.

Alaei vs. Tilly for Big Pot

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We caught the action on this hand on a flop of {K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades}. There was already a decent amount in the middle when Jennifer Tilly led out for 7,000 and was called by Daniel Alaei. The dealer burned and turned the {4-Spades} and Tilly checked to Alaei, who bet 13,500. Tilly made the call as the {9-Hearts} peeled off on the river. Tilly immediately fired out 20,000 only to have Alaei move all in for 37,225 more!

It was a tough decision for Tilly, who had approximately 50,000 behind. She tanked for a couple minutes before releasing her hand. Alaei took down the pot without a showdown and increase his stack to around 140,000.

Alaei Over Six-Figures

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Daniel Alaei is up over 100,000.
Daniel Alaei is up over 100,000.

Three players saw a flop of {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{7-Hearts} including Daniel Alaei and Jennifer Tilly. Alaei was first to act and checked to an opponent who bet 2,425. Both Tilly and Alaei called. All three players checked after the {7-Spades} turned, but when the {3-Clubs} rivered Alaei led for 8,000. The player in the middle called, Tilly folded and Alaei rolled over {a-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for aces and sixes. His opponent mucked, and Alaei is now up to 103,000 chips.

Bansi Slips

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Praz Bansi
Praz Bansi

Praz Bansi was out of position in a raised pot and the board read {j-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Bansi led for 3,500 and his opponent made the call.

Bansi slowed down after the {k-Diamonds} turned though, checking to his opponent who bet 7,200. The Englishman went into the tank and reached for a handful of blue T5,000 chips, studying his opponent for any type of reaction. After a moment or two Bansi cut out enough chips to call and flipped them into the pot.

The river was the {8-Clubs} and Bansi checked again. His opponent methodically gathered 17,700 chips and slid them in the middle. Bansi jumped with frustration and began to stand up, but instead he sat back down and riffled some chips. He stared at his opponent with great intensity, surveying his face for an answer to the puzzle.

"Ya have aces?" he asked him. "You want a call?"

His opponent said nothing. Bansi grabbed enough chips to make the call and held them over the felt with two fingers for nearly 20 seconds before pulling them back.

"I'm sorry guys," he said to the table.

Finally, after three to five minutes of thought, Bansi begrudgingly made the call. He grunted with disappointment when his opponent rolled over {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} for a set of sixes and flashed {a-Spades}{j-Clubs} before mucking.

Bansi is still very healthy though, his stack is at 105,000.

Weisner Busted

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

After being crippled a short time earlier, Melanie Weisner was under the gun and moved all in for right around 4,000 and received a single caller.

Weisner: {A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Opponent: {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

While she was ahead preflop, the {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop changed all that. The {10-Clubs} on the turn was no help and neither was the {4-Diamonds} on the river. Weisner has been eliminated from the 2011 PCA.

Weisner Takes a Huge Hit

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

A middle position player raised to 1,700 preflop and received calls from the small blind and Melanie Weisner in the big. When the flop came out {5-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, the small blind led out for 3,200, Weisner called, and the original raiser got out of the way.

The dealer burned and turned the {7-Clubs}, at which point the small blind bet 6,000. Again Weisner called as the {6-Spades} appeared on the river. This time the small blind bet 12,000 and put Weisner to the test. She only had 16,000 remaining so a call would be for 75% of her stack. She tanked for a solid three minutes before making the call. Unfortunately for her, she was left shaking her head when the small blind flipped over {7-Spades}{8-Spades}.
