1.15 Million Chip Pot

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 500 ante
Eric Froehlich
Eric Froehlich

Eric Froehlich was in early position and raised to 20,000. Action folded to Robert Akery in the small blind and he promptly raised around 30,000 more. Not to be deterred, Froehlich popped it an additional 80,000. Akery responded by moving all in for right around 600,000 while Froelich shrugged and called off his stack of 517,500. Just like that the pot had swelled to 1.15 million, creating what could be the biggest pot in the tournament thus far.

Froehlich: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Akery: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

It was a classic race in a critical point of the tournament. The winner would be among the biggest stacks in the room while the loser would either be eliminated or crippled. The table was silent as the flop came down {9-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}. Froehlich had hit a set but Akery could still catch a ten for a straight.

The dealer slowly burned and turned the {9-Spades}, which gave Froehlich a full house and left Akery drawing dead. The {7-Hearts} was put out on the river for good measure but Akery was left with less than 100,000. Froehlich now sits with one of the biggest stacks in the room.
