Folescu Runs Into Aces, Busts

Cristian Folescu (Day 2) - Eliminated
Cristian Folescu (Day 2) - Eliminated

Cristian Folescu opened to 60,000 in early position, and Alex Fitzgerald three-bet to 138,000 on his direct left. The action folded back to Folescu, who went into the tank. He then moved all in for 1 million chips, and Fitzgerald looked back at his cards to make sure they hadn't changed, then called.

Showdown
Folescu: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Fitzgerald: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

The {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} was pretty awful for Folescu, and the {j-Diamonds} on the turn took away his backdoor chop outs. The {6-Clubs} on the river ended the hand, and Folescu's 2012 PCA Main Event.

Fitzgerald is now well over 2 million chips, and battling for the chip lead.

Jacobson Punishes Pagano

Luca Pagano raised to 46,000 in the cutoff seat, and Martin Jacobson three-bet shoved for 291,000 from the small blind. Pagano needed a few minutes to consider, and he cut the calling chips from his stack to assess the potential damage. Finally, he double-checked his hole cards, picked up the blue-and-green tower that he's put aside and placed it carefully across the line. Jacobson was at risk, but he was in pretty good shape to at least get his chips back.

Showdown
Pagano: {A-Hearts} {3-Hearts}
Jacobson: {A-Clubs} {6-Spades}

The board ran {2-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}, and the six plays after all. Jacobson manages to find his double, and he's taken the majority of Pagano's stack in the process.

Today's Bad Idea: Playing Pots Against Faraz Jaka

Faraz Jaka
Faraz Jaka

We only walked up to the river, so everything before that comes from the questionable memory of announcer Robbie Thompson.

Thompson tells us that Lawrence Greenberg was the preflop raiser, and Jaka came along out of the blinds to go heads-up. Jaka check-called a bet on the {10-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {5-Spades} flop, then led out with a small bet of 30,000 when the {5-Hearts} paired the board on fourth street. That's where we picked up the action for ourselves as we could sense the pot inflating from across the room. Greenberg raised to 130,000, Jaka shoved in, and Greenberg called off his last ~500,000 to put himself at risk. He was right, though.

Showdown
Greenberg: {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}
Jaka: {2-Hearts} {4-Hearts}

Sometimes good reads go unrewarded in this game, and such was the case here for Greenberg. Jaka's playing hot and running even hotter, and the river {6-Diamonds} completed his straight to earn him another elimination. We're going to have to get our abacuses out and do some figuring, but Jaka must have about 3.6 million now, and quite possibly closer to 3.7 or 3.8 million.

"Good call," he complimented Greenberg, though it didn't seem to be much consolation to the freshly eliminated gent.

Arrivederci, Pagano

Luca Pagano eliminated
Luca Pagano eliminated

After taking most of his chips in an earlier hand, Martin Jacobson put the finishing touches on Luca Pagano.

The action folded to the Italian PokerStars Team Pro, who moved all in for his last 200,000 in the small blind. Jacobson snapped it off from the big, and the hands were opened.

Showdown
Pagano: {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
Jacobson: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The board ran {8-Clubs}{3-Spades}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, and Pagano was eliminated from the tournament.

Top Two for Drover

On the {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop, Mark Drover fired a bet of 53,000 that was called by Alex Fitzgerald. The turn was the {7-Clubs} and Drover checked. Fitzgerald bet 78,000 and Drover called. The river was the {3-Diamonds} and Drover checked again. Fitzgerald checked behind.

Drover turned up the {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} for top two pair. Fitzgerald mucked his hand and lost this pot.

Semisoshenko-Charmed Life

In the hijack seat, Phil D'Auteuil opened the pot to 43,000, and Maksim Semisoshenko three-bet to 115,000. D'Auteuil shoved on him, and Semisoshenko made the call for his tournament life, verbally committing his last 714,000 chips to the pot. It was a big, big coin flip.

Showdown
D'Auteuil: {A-Spades} {K-Hearts}
Semisoshenko: {9-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}

Semisoshenko's pair held fast on the {7-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {6-Spades} {4-Spades} {Q-Spades} board, and he's overtaken D'Auteuil and climbed up over the chip average with that double.

Not Strong Enough

Warren Strong (Day 3)
Warren Strong (Day 3)

From early position, Anthony Gregg raised to 43,000. Warren Strong reraised all in from the small blind for around 320,000. Gregg called.

Gregg: {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}
Strong: {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

The flop came down {K-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs} and Gregg added a pair of kings to further increase his lead in the hand. The turn was the {A-Diamonds} and river the {7-Spades}. Gregg's pair of kings were good and Strong headed out the door.

Team Jacob-son

Martin Jacobson now commands a top-ten stack.
Martin Jacobson now commands a top-ten stack.

Faraz Jaka started the action by raising to 40,000 from early position. David Peters called on his direct left, David Granados called out of the small blind, and Martin Jacobson squeezed from the big blind, three-betting to 163,000. Jaka got out of the way, but Peters went deep in the tank. He eventually said, "all in," Granados snap-mucked, and Jacobson instantly called, putting himself at risk.

Showdown
Peters: {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}
Jacobson: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Jacobson had Peters dominated, and held as the board ran {6-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts}{a-Hearts}, doubling to 1.7 million chips.
