Alaei On The Rise

Daniel Alaei and Justin Bonomo were heads up on a board of {6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{a-Clubs}. Alaei checked, Bonomo bet 25,000, and Alaei called.

The turn was the {j-Diamonds}, Alaei checked again, and Bonomo fired 62,000. Alaei again called.

The river was the {k-Hearts}, both players checked, and Bonomo showed {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for air. Alaei tabled {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for a pair of jacks, and won a sizable pot.

Newey Returns

Paul Newey has reentered and is back in his original seat between Erik Seidel and Andrew Lichtenberger.

Kurganov 0-for-2

Greg Jensen opened to 7,000 in middle position and Ashton Griffin called in the cutoff. Igor Kurganov re-raised all in from the small blind for 62,400 and only Jensen called.

Kurganov: {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}
Jensen: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}

The board ran out {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} to give Jensen jacks full of kings to score the elimination.

Newey's New Start

Jason Mercier opened to 6,000 from early position, Paul Newey defended his big blind, and the dealer spread {a-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Newey led out for 8,500, and Mercier raised to 25,700. Newey called.

The turn was the {6-Spades}, and Newey tanked for a minute or so before checking. Mercier tossed out 25,700, and Newey check-raised all in for around 80,000. Mercier wasn't happy about it, but plopped forward enough blue T5,000 chips to make the call.

Newey: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Mercier: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}

The {7-Diamonds} on the river was a brick, and Newey was eliminated.

"I'd rather just start again," Newey told the table as he headed to re-enter the tournament.

Mercier is now up around 470,000 chips.

Kurganov's Second Bullet Isn't Going Well

Just before the level up, Igor Kurganov, who already busted this tournament once and opted to re-enter, opened for 5,000 when action folded to him on the button. Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel, who had an amazing year here at the PCA in 2012 including a fourth-place finish in this event for $313,600, then opted to three-bet to 16,000 from the big blind.

Kurganov called the additional 11,000 and then called when Duhamel bet 14,000 on the {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop. Duhamel kept the pressure on with a bet of 34,500 on the {A-Clubs} river, but Kurganov was not to be deterred and made the call. When the {9-Clubs} peeled off on the river, Duhamel fired out a healthy bet of 74,000, and after thinking for about thirty seconds, Kurganov made the call.

Duhamel tabled {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, and a frustrated Kurganov sent his cards to the muck while dropping to 66,000.

Selbst Takes From Ladouceur

Vanessa Selbst opened to 5,500 from early position and Marc-Andre Ladouceur re-raised to 13,000 from the next seat over.

Action folded back to Selbst who called, delivering an {A-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop. Selbst check-called 14,000 from Ladouceur to see the {6-Diamonds} turn. Both checked, resulting in the {J-Diamonds} river. Selbst bet 32,300 and after a few moments, Ladouceur called.

Selbst tabled a winning {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} to take down the pot.

Grospellier Check-Raises River

Dan Shak, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, and Vanessa Selbst all saw a flop of {3-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. The action checked to Selbst, who fired 7,200. Only Grospellier called.

The turn was the {10-Diamonds}, both players checked, and the river was the {3-Spades}. Grospellier checked a third time, and Selbst fired 16,400. Grospellier check-raised to 52,500, and Selbst tank-folded.

Dwan Raises River

Justin Bonomo led out for 28,000 on a board of {10-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{3-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, and Tom Dwan tanked for a bit before raising to 61,000.

Bonomo examined the rest of Dwan's stack, tanked for a bit, then folded.

McDonald Doesn't See Gregg Coming

Anthony Gregg opened to 5,500 under the gun and Bill Perkins made the call from the cutoff using all black T100 chips. Action then reached Mike "Timex" McDonald in the small blind and he three-bet to 16,600. Much to McDonald's surprise, Gregg made the call, as did Perkins.

McDonald proceeded to lead out for 15,500 on the {3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop, Gregg called, and Perkins got out of the way. When the {5-Diamonds} appeared on the turn, McDonald checked and quickly folded when Gregg bet 35,500.

McDonald then explained he didn't realize Gregg had originally opened and was under the impression Perkins had opened the pot. "I'd have played that hand quite differently," McDonald explained much to the amusement of his opponents.
