There’s plenty to do at Atlantis, even if you’re not playing poker. But for those with the spirit of adventure in their rum cocktail there’s a whole island waiting to be explored, although perhaps not at night… Learn more on the PokerStars Blog.
We made our way over just in time to discover that a short-stacked Brandon Steven was all in for his last 34,400 holding and up against the of Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier. It was a classic flip, but Steven needed to improve to stay alive. The flop wasn't helpful, and neither was the turn. The river was a paint card, but unfortunately for Steven it was the useless .
"Good luck everyone," Steven said before telling Dan Shak he may re-enter tomorrow (late registration is open up until the start of Day 2).
Meanwhile, David Benefield was eliminated up on the feature table. We're not sure of all the details, but we do know Benefield got it all in holding and was ahead of Antonio Esfandiari's . Benefield was ahead, but not after the flop delivered "The Magician" a seven. Benefield was unable to catch up and was replaced at the final table by Daniel Alaei.
Fabian Quoss was recently eliminated by Jonathan Duhamel.
Quoss got his stack of roughly 70,000 into the middle with and needed to improve against Duhamel's to survive. The board ran out to send Quoss to the rail.
We didn't catch the action until the end, but we just saw Jonathan Duhamel get paid off by Greg Jensen.
It happened with the board reading and about 50,000 in the pot. Duhamel had just checked from the small blind and Jensen fired out 20,000 from the big. Duhamel then sprung to life with a check-raise to 66,000, and Jensen thought for about a minute before making the call. Duhamel then revealed for a full house, which was good as Jensen sent his cards to the muck.
Little is known of Jensen other than the fact that he's an investment banker who flew to the Bahamas on a private jet with his wife to play a little poker. Rumor around the Atlantis is that his wife has intentions of playing the Women's Event and possibly the $10,000 PCA Main Event.
