Nice One For Newey

Paul Newey opened for 600 under the gun only to have Steven Silverman three-bet to 1,800 from middle position. The rest of the field folded, Newey called, and it was heads-up action to the {K-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades}. Newey proceeded to check-call a bet of 2,050, and then he fired out 5,600 on the {2-Hearts} turn.

Silverman called and then watched Newey bet 12,650 on the {9-Diamonds} river. Silverman thought for a long time, called, and then mucked when Newey rolled over {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for the nuts.

Duhamel's Aces

Jonathan Duhamel opened to 600 from early position, Marc-Andre Ladouceur called in the hijack seat, and Fabian Quoss defended from the big blind. The flop fell {2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}, and the action checked to Ladouceur. He tossed out 1,200, and only Duhamel called.

The turn was the {2-Clubs}, Duhamel checked again, and Ladouceur fired 2,600. Duhamel called.

The river was the {5-Hearts}, and for the first time, Duhamel led. The 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion flipped forward four red T1,000 chips, and Ladouceur called. Duhamel flipped over {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} for aces and deuces, winning the pot.

Negreanu Rolls Over The Nuts

In one of the last hands of Level 1, Chris Oliver opened for 500 from the hijack and received a call from Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu on the button. The blinds both folded, the flop fell {10-Spades}{J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, and Oliver continued for 850.

Negreanu called and then Oliver check-called a bet of 1,500 on the {5-Hearts} turn. When the {5-Hearts} appeared on the river, Oliver led out for 5,000 and then called when Negreanu raised to 10,500. Negreanu rolled over {J-Spades}{10-Clubs} for the nuts and the win.

Checking In With The Defending Champ

We thought we'd check in with last year's winner, Alex Bilokur, who was seated over at Table 9. Upon our arrival we saw a player in early position raise to 400 only to have Bilokur three-bet to 1,125 from the cutoff. The original raiser then four-bet to 2,300, Bilokur called, and the flop fell {7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. The early-position player continued with a bet of 2,400 and Bilokur reluctantly folded.

It wasn't an exciting hand, but it gave us a good excuse to let you know that, despite losing that hand, the defending champ is still up from the starting stack with 67,500.

Raskin's "Value Bet"

Micah Raskin and an opponent were heads up on a board of {8-Spades}{2-Clubs}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, and there was about 9,500 in the middle. Raskin had a bet of 4,000 sitting in front of him, and the player had been in the tank for a considerable amount of time.

"Why so small?" he finally asked.

"It's called a value bet, sir," Raskin answered bluntly.

Then Matt Stout spoke up.

"I'm going to have to call the clock on you if you keep taking this long for every decision," he told the player. "I didn't say anything during the big pot, but this is a small one."

The player nodded, and finally folded.

The Ladies Love A Professional Best Friend

With 1,200 in the pot and a board reading {7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, 1996 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Huck Seed checked from the big blind and watched Jeff "Professional Best Friend" Gross bet 700 from middle position. Seed decided to push back with a check-raise to 2,700, Gross called, and then both players checked the {A-Spades} river.

"King high," Seed said with trademark lazy grace. Gross then rolled over {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs} to claim the pot.
