Kraus Doubles Through Anderson

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

On the {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop, Calvin Anderson and Joseph Cheong checked to Anton Kraus. He bet 1,200, Anderson called, and Cheong folded.

The turn was the {5-Spades}, and Anderson checked. Kraus moved all in for 4,450, and Anderson tank-called. Kraus showed the {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts} for top pair, while Anderson had the {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for second pair.

The river was a blank to give Kraus the double and drop Anderson to 119,000 in chips.

Cheong Firing Away

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

From under the gun, Joseph Cheong raised to 800. In the next seat, Bulgarian Anton Kraus made the call. Everyone else folded, and the flop came down {K-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. Cheong bet 1,125, and Kraus called.

The {Q-Spades} landed on the turn, and Cheong bet again. This time he made it 2,075, and that earned a quick fold from Kraus to give Cheong the pot.

Anderson Loses To Straight

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Chip leader Calvin Anderson has had nearly everything go his way here on Day 1a, but he did just take a small hit after an opponent hit him with a ten-high straight.

Anderson fired 3,700 on the {8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{9-Clubs} board, and his opponent called to see the {10-Diamonds} fall on the river. Anderson checked, and his opponent bet 8,500. Anderson opted to call, but couldn't beat the {7-Spades}{6-Clubs} that his opponent rolled over. Anderson mucked and slipped back to roughly 123,000 in chips.

One for Mubarak Shenadeh

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

On the {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop, the first player checked, and then Walid Raysuli Mubarak Shenadeh fired a bet of 1,300. Behind him, Noah Schwartz made the call, and then the first player called as well.

After the {3-Spades} was added to the board on the turn, the first player checked. Mubarak Shenadeh bet 2,050, and that was good enough to win the pot as both of his opponents folded their hands.

Rettenmaier's Tens Beat Rousso

Vanessa Rousso
Vanessa Rousso

On the {Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop, one player checked, and then Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso checked over to the third player in the hand, Marvin Rettenmaier. Rettenmaier fired a bet of 2,625, and the first player folded. Rousso made the call, though.

On the {4-Spades} turn, both players checked. Rousso and Rettenmaier also checked the {6-Clubs} river card. At the showdown, Rettenmaier tabled the {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, and Rousso mucked her hand.

With $3,513,843 in career live tournament earnings, Rousso sits fifth on the women's all-time money list. Her best year was 2009 when she earned $1,293,283, but her results have been few and far between in the more recent years of her career. In 2012, Rousso cashed for only $3,615, and then in 2013 she only managed to improve her scores to $38,933.

Rettenmaier, on the other hand, seems to be hitting his prime in poker. With $4,536,976 in live tournament earnings throughout his career, Rettenmaier is highly regarded as one of the brightest stars in the games right now. He's coming off an impressive 2013 that saw him earn over $600,000, cash in four World Series of Poker events, and make two World Poker Tour final tables.
