One For Esfandiari

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

Antonio Esfandiari made it 165,000 from under the gun with {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Fabian Quoss flatted from the button with {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. The blinds folded and the two saw a flop of {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. Esfandiari continued out for 215,000 and Quoss called to see fourth street.

The {J-Hearts} hit the turn, giving Esfandiari the lead with a pair of jacks. Both players checked and the {2-Hearts} completed the board. Esfandiari cut out a bet of 360,000 and Quoss let it go.

Antonio Esfandiari Eliminated in 4th Place ($575,920)

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Antonio Esfandiari - 4th Place
Antonio Esfandiari - 4th Place

Vanessa Selbst opened to 160,000 on the button with {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}. Antonio Esfandiari woke up with {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} in the big blind, quickly three-betting to 430,000, and Selbst asked for a count.

Esfandiari counted his remaining stacks with his finger and said that he had 1.9 million behind his three-bet. Selbst closed her eyes while thinking, riffling chips with her right hand, then reached for more green T25,000 chips. She slid out a four-bet of 780,000, Esfandiari moved all in, and Selbst instantly called.

Get on your horses, it's race time!

Esfandiari popped up from his chair and started to give the dealer a massage.

"Please," he said, shaking the man. "Please."

The flop fell {2-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, giving Selbst a wheel draw and a backdoor flush draw, but Selbst needed neither. The {a-Diamonds} spiked on the turn, giving the Team PokerStars Pro a leading pair of aces, and the {5-Clubs} bricked off on the river.

Esfandiari is out in fourth place, earning $575,920, while Selbst now has over seven million chips.

Shak Fires, Quoss Folds

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

Fabian Quoss raised his button to 160,000 with {K-Spades}{J-Hearts} and Dan Shak three-bet the action to 475,000 from the big blind while holding {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}. Quoss called and the two took a flop.

The dealer fanned {8-Hearts}{4-Spades}{A-Clubs} on the felt. Shak pushed out a continuation bet of 600,000 and Quoss tossed his hand away.

Selbst Surrenders the River

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

Dan Shak completed from the small blind with {q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, Fabian Quoss checked his option with {9-Hearts}{4-Spades}, and the flop fell {2-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. Shak checked, Quoss tossed out a “Moon Dust” T100,000 chip, and Shak check-raised to 500,000. Quoss folded.

Quoss completed from the small blind the next hand, this time holding {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}, and Vanessa Selbst checked with {10-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. Quoss led out for 100,000 on a flop of {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, and Selbst put in a raise, making it 320,000 to go.

Quoss considered the bet for around 90 seconds or so, then called.

The turn was a third heart - the {4-Hearts} - leaving Selbst drawing dead, and Quoss quickly checked. Selbst fired out 380,000, and Quoss tank-called.

The {2-Diamonds} completed the board, giving Selbst a meaningless pair of deuces, and Quoss checked once more. Selbst looked over at Quoss' remaining chips, but finally checked behind, giving up on the hand.

Shak Over Quoss

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

Fabian Quoss raised to 160,000 from the button with {J-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and Dan Shak called from the big blind holding {K-Spades}{7-Hearts}. The flop came down {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Shak checked. Quoss continued out for 200,000.

Shak double-checked his hole cards and then tossed out a raise to 600,000. Quoss called the raise and the {2-Clubs} fell on the turn.

Shak announced an all in bet, putting Quoss at risk for his last 1.9 million in chips. Quoss quickly let his hand go and Shak took down the pot.

Dan Shak Isn't Really Good at Races

Dan Shak - Not very good at races
Dan Shak - Not very good at races

Dan Shak raised to 250,000 on the button with {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}, Fabian Quoss moved all in for 1.78 million in the small blind with {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}, and Vanessa Selbst quickly folded.

Shak announced that he didn’t feel like doubling Quoss up with deuces, and folded.

“It would’ve been a race,” Quoss told him.

“I figured,” Shak said, smiling. “I’m not very good at those.”
