Newey Turns onto Broadway

Level 13 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Paul Newey spikes an ace; doubles
Paul Newey spikes an ace; doubles

Max Altergott opened to 34,000 from under the gun, Mike McDonald called in the cutoff, and Paul Newey three-bet to 130,000 on the button. Altergott responded with a four-bet to 225,000, McDonald quickly folded, and Newey tanked for a considerable amount of time before calling.

The flop fell {10-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, and Newey quickly checked. Altergott bet a measly 85,000, and Newey thought for two or three minutes before moving all in for 296,000. Altergott immediately called.

Newey: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Altergott: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

Newey needed help, and received it when the {a-Clubs} turned, giving him Broadway. The German could still fill up with an ace or a king on the river, but failed to do so when the {8-Diamonds} completed the board.
