Greenberg Ships it On Sointula

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Lawrence Greenberg just raised to 1,800 and Shaun Deeb called on his direct left, after which Jani Sointula and both blinds called as well.

The flop came out {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{9-Spades} and both blinds checked, after which Greenberg bet 3,200 by throwing out one chip worth 5,000 and two chips worth 100. Greenberg had announced his bet size verbally, as he had no yellow 1,000 chips left to bet, and Deeb folded.

Sointula, who was clearly making the call, threw out the same chips, but as did not state his action, Deeb pointed out that this had to be a raise. Both blinds quickly folded, and the tournament director was called over, who ruled that Sointula indeed had to make it 6,400.

After Sointula put in the raise, Greenberg shoved for 29,300 and Sointula smiled before folding.

The $100K Super High Roller Champ Takes His Leave

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

In one of the last hands of Level 7, Greg Merson opened for 1,600 and António Manuel Da Costa Ferreira called. Joe McKeehen then three-bet to 5,100 from the button, Bryn Kenny four-bet to 13,200 from the big blind, and Merson folded. Costa went to call the 5,100, and when he put in the chips he was informed of Kenney's raise. Costa then opted to call for 13,200 while McKeehen got out of the way.

When the flop came down {9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}, Kenney bet 15,000, Costa moved all in for 29,200, and Kenney called off for what looked to be 28,000.

Kenney: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Costa: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Kenney needed some help to stay alive, but he was left wanting as the {Q-Spades} bricked on the turn followed by the {7-Hearts} on the river.

Dietrich Just Won't Die

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Chance Kornuth raised to 2,200 only to have Michael Dietrich three-bet all in for 12,900. Action folded back to Kornuth and he made the call.

Kornuth: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Dietrich: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Dietrich was well out in front thanks to his kicker, which made the difference after the board ran out {3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{k-Spades}{3-Spades}.

Soshnikov Dispatches Reigning World Series of Poker Main Event Champ

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Joe McKeehen
Joe McKeehen

Joe McKeehen limped the button and Jared Jaffee did the same from the small blind. Ivan Soshnikov then raised to 4,200 from the big, McKeehen three-bet all in for 22,300, and Jaffe folded. Soshnikov made the call and the cards were turned up.

Soshnikov: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
McKeehen: {a-Spades}{4-Hearts}

It was a bad spot for McKeehen, and his best bet was to catch an ace. The {9-Spades}{j-Hearts}{8-Hearts} flop was far from it, and the {5-Spades} turn didn't do him any favors. McKeehen needed an ace and an ace only on the river to stay alive, but it wasn't in the cards as the {J-Spades} paired the board.

Kenney Gone Again; McKeehen Back In

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Joe McKeehen has jumped right back in action. Bryn Kenney did too after his bustout, but it did him little good as he was sent packing for a second time almost immediately.
