Lex Veldhuis
Lex Veldhuis

James Rose opened from under the gun before Lex Veldhuis jammed for 12,500 from the big blind. Rose called to put the PokerStars ambassador at risk of elimination.

Lex Veldhuis: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
James Rose: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Veldhuis was in bad shape as both of his suits were covered and he was drawing to two immediate outs.

No nine appeared on the {k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} runout and confirmed Veldhuis' exit.

Julien Sitbon
Julien Sitbon

Julien Sitbon opened to 2,200 from under the gun and only Arthur Conan called from the big blind.

Conan check-called for 1,600 and 7,000 on the flop and turn for the final board to show {j-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}. Both players checked back the river to showdown.

Conan tabled his {a-}{4-} for a pair of aces but was outkicked as Sitbon had the {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} for the best hand.

Back to the Drawing Board for Nolet After Clash With Greenwood

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Sam Greenwood
Sam Greenwood

In a pot of just 14,000 and a board of {q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Spades}, Sam Greenwood opted to check. Guillaume Nolet bet 7,500 on the button, then Greenwood check-raised to 43,900 total with only 400 chips left behind.

Nolet tanked for two minutes then called and Greenwood revealed {j-Spades}{10-Spades} for a flush to drag in a very healthy pot in the late stages of Day 1a.

Picasso Triples Up

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Francisco Picasso was all-in for a mere 3,100 and Yuri Dzivielevski reraised to 5,300 in the hijack. Anton Astapau then four-bet to 13,000 in the cutoff and was called by Dzivielevski. The two active players checked the {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop and the {6-Spades} turn paired the board. Dzivielevski bet 9,000 and Astapau folded.

Francisco Picasso: {k-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Yuri Dzivielevski: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The diamonds were no good for Picasso and he instead spiked the {9-Spades} river to triple up.

More for Lewis; Zero for Kuo

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Andre Akkari
Andre Akkari

Prior to the {k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds} river, both Clemen Deng and Romain Lewis had invested 3,500 chips each. The final bet by Lewis was then 15,000 and that forced a fold from Deng, as the Frenchman increased his stack without showdown.

One table over, Kitty Kuo was spotted on her way out. Her cards were already mucked by the dealer as her stack and the one of Andre Akkari were counted. On a board of {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, the {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} of Akkari were the best hand and his 45,000 also covered Kuo to reduce the field by one.

João Simao
João Simao

Action was caught on the turn with the board reading {q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. Alex Kulev bet 2,100 from the big blind before Joao Simao made it 13,200 from the hijack. Kulev called.

Both players checked the {j-Clubs} river through to showdown. Kulev tabled his {a-Hearts}{j-Spades} for a pair of jacks but the pot went to Simao after he turned over his {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, which was good for a set.
