HK$80,000 High Roller
Day 1 Started
Greetings poker fans and welcome to the PokerNews live coverage of the Poker King Cup Macau 2017 brought to you from the Poker King poker room at the Venetian Macau.
The nine-day festival boasts 12 action-packed events – which you can find the full schedule for on the Poker King Club website or on PokerNews – with the highlight being the HK$16,500 (~US$2,120) Poker King Cup Macau Main Event, which features a massive HK$5 million guaranteed prize pool.
With three opening Day 1 flights running from May 21-23 there is a further three days of poker action to follow when all surviving players from the three flights return to battle it out for the hallowed money spots from May 24-26 until a champion is crowned.
Also on the schedule is the HK$8,000 Poker King Cup Warm-Up, which features an HK$1 million guaranteed prize pool. Players will begin action on two opening days on May 19 and May 20. Surviving players will compete for the title on May 21.
Running at the same time as the Warm-Up will be the two-day HK$80,000 Poker King Cup High Roller on May 19-20. Other events on the schedule include the one-day HK$3,000 Poker King Cup Queens Event on May 23 and the two-day HK$20,000 Poker King Cup King Size Stack on May 25-26.
The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will report the biggest hands from start to finish for both the Poker King Cup Main Event and the Poker King Cup High Roller.
All the Poker King Cup events in this series are listed on the Global Poker Index (GPI), meaning competitors have an opportunity to earn valuable GPI Player of the Year points or just make their breakout on the world poker stage by taking down the Main Event.
However, today is for the High Rollers and we will be bringing you all the high-octane big buy-in tournament action from the two-day HK$80,000 Poker King Cup High Roller, which begins shortly at 2pm local time (GMT+7).
Players start with 50,000 in chips and have the option to re-enter should the cards not fall their way, and have 40-minute levels in which to use them, with antes coming into play from level 2 onwards with Day 1 finishing at the end of level 9.
Stay tuned as we bring you all the tournament thrills and spills as Macau’s High Rollers and visiting international poker professional’s battle it out at the baize for vast sums of cold hard cash and a chance at fortune and glory.
Players are trickling into the poker room slowly but surely and the registration queue is growing by the minute.
We expect cards to be in the air shortly, but High Rollers are a notoriously fickle bunch when it comes to timekeeping so whether the HK$76,000+$4,000 starts at 2pm sharp is anyone’s guess.
However, there will be action aplenty as the Day 1 progresses so stick around and we’ll bring you all the big hands as they happen when the tournament gets underway.

The HK$76,000+$4,000 High Roller is now underway with three eager beavers already seated and China’s Boyao Li, YunSheng Sun and Kanglong Lu all seem eager to get going.
Hong Kong’s Nick Wong is also wandering the poker room and seems keen to join the fray but has yet to join the tournament. Cards are now in the air and the action is underway.

Hong Kong’s Nick Wong has recently taken his seat bringing the number of High Rollers up to four.
Wong has started as he means to go on and has just taken down a decent sized pot from Kanglong Lu.
Preflop it was Lu who opened the action with a raise to 550 from the cutoff, only to see Wong, sitting on the button, re-pop the action to 1,500 in total.
Lu called and the blinds bowed out taking the action heads-up to a flop of , which Lu checked over to Wong, who continuation bet 1,800 into the 3,300 pot.
Lu made the call and the dealer peeled off the turn, which brought another check from Lu and a second barrel of 2,600 from Wong. Lu looked like he was a nonbeliever and check-raised to 6,200 in total, which after some deliberation Wong called.
The river completed the hand and the action as both players checked it down. Lu rolled over but this was not enough to beat Wong’s and the Hong Kong player scooped the pot.

With the late arrival of Taiwan’s James Chen and Pingsan ‘Peter’ Chan we are now six-handed in the HK$76,000+$4,000 High Roller.
Both Chen and Chan are well versed at playing big buy-in tournaments and some of the highest stakes cash games Macau offers so we expect the action to be fiercely competitive.

We missed the pre-flop action but caught a three-way hand between Boyao Li (cutoff), Peter Chan (button) and Nick Wong (big blind) on a flop of just as Wong led out for a pot-sized 5,500 bet.
Li made the call and Chan folded to take the action heads-up to the turn, which was checked by both players.
The river also saw no betting and Wong turned over for bottom pair, which was not enough to beat Li’s top two pair and the Chinese player raked in the pot.
