Gu Gets Busy, Zhi Yu Dong Doubles

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Huidong Gu is getting busy building a stack and has just taken down a hand three-way against fellow high roller Liang Xu and another tablemate.

Pre-flop Gu was the initial aggressor, making it 1,100 to go from middle position before an opponent in the cutoff re-raised to 2,500. Liang Xu made the call from the big blind, as did Gu and the action went three-way to a flop of {10-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}.

Xu checked it over to Gu, who did not seem perturbed at getting re-raised pre-flop and he led for 5,100. The cutoff looked sorely tempted but eventually gave it up, as did Xu after a little bit of deliberation, leaving Gu to rake in the pot and climb to 80,000.

Over on one of the other tournament tables, a short-stacked Zhi Yu Dong moved all-in for his last 9,350 on the river with the board reading {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}{7-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} with over 30,000 already in the pot. His opponent in the hand, sitting on the button tanked for a good two minutes before throwing in the call, only to muck instantly when Dong turned over {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for the rivered nut flush, though he had also made top pair on the turn. That timely catch saw Dong climb to 50,000.

It Rains on the River

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Rain Hu
Rain Hu

An increasingly active Rain Hu is stacking up well and has just padded out his stack a little more at the expense of tablemates Hongdi Zhao and Liang Peng.

Peng had already noticed Hu’s frisky behaviour and had re-raised him from the blinds on several occasions previously and folded him out, meaning the two have some history already.

Pre-flop Hu was at it again, making it 1,400 to go from the cutoff. Peng snap called the button and while he took slightly longer about it Hongdi Zhao also called from the big blind and the action went three-way to a flop of {j-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{q-Hearts}.

All three players checked and the {6-Hearts} hit the turn. Zhao checked it over to Hu, who took a stab for 2,400 and Peng eyed him up suspiciously. Peng was probably thinking the same as us – surely Hu would have bet the flop with a flush draw – and made the call.

While Zhao looked tempted he decided against it and folded to take the action heads-up to the {k-Diamonds} river. Hu now checked and Peng checked it back, throwing his cards disgustedly into the muck when Hu tabled {k-Spades}{5-Clubs} for a rivered top pair. When it rains it pours…

More for Ma

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

The USA’s Richard Ma is currently one of the bigger stacks and while he has less than the last time we checked Ma has just taken down a decent sized pot from tablemate Wei Guoliang to keep himself in the running.

Pre-flop Ma made it 1,200 to go from the cutoff and Guoliang tossed in the extras from the big blind taking the action heads-up to a flop of {2-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, which both players checked.

The {10-Clubs} turn saw Guoliang reach for chips, and he took a stab for 1,200 with Ma throwing in the call quickly. The {q-Clubs} river brought four to a club flush and neither player looked too happy about it and the action went check, check.

Guoliang turned over {j-Spades}{q-Spades} for a rivered top pair, but this was not enough to beat Ma’s {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and he scooped the pot.
