Kilian Loeffler

We’re not sure how he’s done it, but Germany’s Kilian Loeffler has had a sterling reversal of fortune and has now edged into the chip lead. When last we checked at the start of the last level Loeffler had around 6,500 but is now sitting on a great deal more.

We don’t want to speculate on where he got these additional chips from but Antonio Martins is on a much-reduced stack, closer to starting stack than previously and Atanas Kavrakov’s seat is empty and he is currently re-entering over at registration desk.

We caught Loeffler in action in a hand against Nan Jiang, who was the initial pre-flop aggressor having made it 1,500 to go from the hi-jack with Loeffler (big blind) the only caller.

The German checked the {2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{7-Spades} flop over to Jiang, who checked it back and the {10-Clubs} hit the turn. Loeffler checked once more and Jiang decided to take a stab for 1,800, which Loeffler quickly called. The {4-Clubs} river saw Loeffler change it up and he now led for 2,100 and after mulling it over Jiang tossed in the call.

Loeffler rolled over {7-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for second pair and Jiang flicked his cards into the muck. He dropped to 21,000 after the hand while Loeffler is sitting pretty on the chip lead and a stack of 45,000.

Macau's Sio Fat Lau is another new arrival and along with the re-entry of Atanas Kavrakov this brings the total number of entrants up to 24, 16 of whom are still in the running.

Game Time Once Again, Gerrits Enters

Level 6

Players are now back from the break and the action is underway once again. There has been a new arrival in the form of the Netherland's Martijn Gerrits, who won an impressive three trophies during the recent Asia Championship of Poker to bring his total tournament winnings up to just over US$100,000. The Dutchman will be looking to pad out his trophy collection still further so let's see how he gets on.

Loeffler Flexes Stack

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

Germany’s Kilian Loeffler is still the man to beat and has just taken down another pot to pad out his stack still further.

Loeffler was the man driving the action, opening for 1,400 from middle position with the newly arrived Martijn Gerrits making the call from the button and Thin Tin Duong making the call from the small blind to take the action three-way.

Duong checked the {8-Hearts}{a-Spades}{5-Spades} flop over to Loeffler, who continuation-bet 1,600 and that was enough to get it done and he climbed to 45,700.

Cartwright Shoves on Martins

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante
Oliver Cartwright
Oliver Cartwright

Antonio Martins opened from under-the-gun, making it 1,500 to go and finding two customers with Oliver Cartwright (UTG+1) and Keisuke Hikosaka (middle position) both coming along for the ride.

First to act, Martins c-bet the {2-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop with Cartwright the only caller. The {a-Spades} slowed the Portuguese player down some and he checked the action over to Cartwright.

The Irishman did not take long to pull the trigger and he moved all-in for more than Martins had in front of him, sending the latter into the think tank for a spell before he elected to let it go. Martins dropped to 15,025 – a little over starting stack – after the hand while Cartwright raked in the pot to climb to 37,000.

Zimmerman, Jiang and Feng All Gone

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

The field has recently become a little smaller with Joshua Zimmerman, Nan Jiang and Yue Feng all hitting the rail, meaning there are just 14 players currently in the running, though late registration and re-entry is open for another three levels.

The average stack is coming in at a little over 44 big blinds, and the 15,000 starting stack is now worth roughly 26 big blinds.

We’re not sure who got Jiang and Feng, but it appears that it was Macau’s Sio Fat Lau who showed Zimmerman the door. Zimmerman had over 30,000 before the break and it was Lau who was dangerously short with a stack of 8,000.
However, Zimmerman’s seat is now vacant and Lau is stacking up chips and looks to have around 33,000 – not a bad reversal of fortune at all.

And we have just lost one more, with Martijn Gerrits wandering past the media desk just as we were typing our post. That brings the field down to 13.
