Chan Rails Yim

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante
Michael Chan
Michael Chan

Michael Chan’s has go his tournament off to a great start and has just sent an unfortunate opponent to the rail. It was Chan who was the instigator in this particular hand, opening the action from under-the-gun plus one for 525 and finding two customers with Timothy Yim (cutoff) and in the big blind making the call to take the action three-way to a flop of {a-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}.

After the big blind checked, Chan continued to sell the story of a decent hand and continuation bet 750 with Yim the only caller. The {3-Hearts} turn saw Chan load up a second barrel and fire again, this time for 1,700 but this was not enough to deter Yim, who called once more to keep the action heads-up to the {j-Diamonds} river.

Chan wanted to play for the maximum and ripped in the rest of his chips and Yim went deep into the tank for several minutes but did eventually make the call, but mucked his hand and headed for the rail when Chan turned over {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for a rivered top two pairs.

The field has grown some more with Taiwan's Jack Wu signing up, as well as Hong Kong's Tsunchin Yu, Fung Lin and Chun Ming Lee and China's Canlin Chen. Yu Fai Wu is now on his second bullet of the day and Timothy Yim is evidently having a torrid time of it as he has just re-entered for the third time today to bring the total number of entrants up to 44.

Break Time

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

The 38 Day 1D players are on their first 10-minute break of the day. It appears Andrew An is still the early frontrunner, but Canlin Chen has wasted no time in getting up there as well and also has a decent sized stack.

We caught Gab Yong Kim in thr thick of the action just before the break with the Korean player moving all-in for around 12,000 on the turn on a board of {2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades} but his opponent folded quickly. Here’s how some of the field are stacking up:

Chai Takes From An

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

Several decent sized stacks are beginning to emerge and one of them is Andrew An, though the US player has just passed a few chips the way of tablemate Kok Cheng Chai.

It was Chai who was the initial aggressor, making it 700 to from the button with An the only caller in the small blind. An checked the {10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop over to Chai, who c-bet 1,050, which An called.

The {a-Spades} turn slowed both players down and the action went check, check with An checking for a third time when the {4-Clubs} river completed the hand. Chai showed no such restraint and fired for 2,500, which was enough to take it down.

Tse Busts Chan

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante
Justin Chan (left) Laiheng Tse (right)
Justin Chan (left) Laiheng Tse (right)

Hong Kong’s Justin Chan is going to have to fire another bullet if he wants to lock up a Day 2 seat as he has recently busted to tablemate Laiheng Tse.

Chan was already short before the break and his fortunes had not improved since then and he was down to his last 4,025, which he moved into the middle from middle position. Tse (cutoff) was the only caller and the cards were turned over.

Justin Chan: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Laiheng Tse: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Tse had Chan’s smaller pair dominated and while it looked like Chan might actually get a chop when the board ran out {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{a-Spades}{10-Diamonds} the {4-Diamonds} river saw Tse take down the pot and send Chan to the rail.

Chan and Liu Chop Up Opponent’s Chips

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Two interesting back-to-back hands have just played out that have seen Michael Chan and Zhouxin Liu chip up, at the expense of an unfortunate opponent.

We are not sure of the identity of the mystery player, but then he is also no longer in the running unless of course, he chooses to re-enter.

The first of the hands was by far the biggest with our mysterious challenger opening the action to 800 from early position with a player on the button making the call before action was on Chan in the big blind.

The Malaysian looked down at his hole cards and slid out a chunky raise, making it 3,200 to go. Chan received no respect for his raise and both opponents called to keep the action three-way to a flop of {8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}.

First to act, Chan moved all-in for 10,700 and our international man of mystery called and the button quickly got out of the way. Chan, holding {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} found himself up against his opponent’s {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and needed to fade a club and an ace, and duly did so to win a pot close to 50,000.

Chan’s opponent was all in for the last of his chips with {3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} the very next hand with Zhuoxin Liu making the call with {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and the board ran out {4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} to award Liu the pot and send his opponent out the door.

Chan Doubles Pan

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Michael Chan’s stack is yo-yoing up and down wildly and he did not get to hold on to his newly won chips for very long. Chan and Yuefeng Pan got into a pre-flop raising war that saw both players get all the chips in pre-flop with Pan the man to pull the trigger first for a shove of roughly 32,500.

Chan made the call with pocket jacks and was trailing to Pan’s pocket aces and there was no jack to be see meaning Chan drops back down to 10,700 while Pan now has around 48,000.
