Dinner Break

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

The 117 remaining Day 1a Main Event players are off on a 60-minute dinner break while the green 25-chips are removed from play.

When the action resumes there are three more 40-minute levels scheduled before play concludes for the day so stick around and see who makes it though to Day 2.

Stack Check

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Play has resumed after the dinner break and with late registration remaining open until level 11 (the last level of the day) the number of entries has increased. There have now been 156 Main Event entries, with 121 players still in action.

The man leading the charge is Hong Kong's Winson Yau, who has padded out his stack still further and is sitting pretty on a stack of 155,000. Yau's next closest rival is one-time frontrunner Zhongcai Peng, who has a stack of 132,000 with the rest of the field some way behind and not that many other players over the six-figure stack mark.

Korea's Jeho Lee has dropped some and is sitting on a stack of 45,000, and Hong Kong's Ben Lai has also given some back and is sitting with 40,000. Lai's fellow countryman and tablemate Carson Wong has stacked up and is sitting with 70,000.

Other notables with chips include Thailand's Phachara Wongwichit (50,000) and Phanlert Sukonthachartnant (35,000) and both Mauro Francolini and Bart Luyckx are running well on their second bullets, with stacks of 57,000 and 40,000 respectively.

OPC champion Xiaobo Zhou has run his small stack up slightly to close to 27,200 with fellow OPC final tablist Chuanshu Chen also still in action with 49,000 and World Series bracelet winner Preston Lee has around 46,600.

Double For Alex Lee

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Alex Lee (from a previous event)
Alex Lee (from a previous event)

Singapore's Alex Lee has not long earned a double up at the expense of a tablemate to get above starting stack. Following a raise to 2,200 from a player in middle position, Lee flat called from the button to take the hand heads-up.

The raiser fired out a continuation bet of 4,000 on the {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} flop, which Lee called to keep the pair in action. The {10-Diamonds} turn saw the wet board get wetter still and Lee's opponent, who had the Singaporean easily covered, quickly moved all-in.

Lee did not take long to make the call, with his opponent proudly turning over {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for bottom pair, backdoor flush draw and a gutshot straight draw. Lee was in front with {a-Spades}{4-Spades} and despite his opponent having a ton of outs, the Singaporean's hand held with the {8-Clubs} river locking up the double up and Lee climbed to 48,000.

Chen Cracks Wongwichit's Ladies

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Phachara Wongwichit
Phachara Wongwichit

Phachara Wongwichit's Main Event has taken a small step backward, with the Thai player losing a hand to China's Chuanshu Chen. However, some canny pot control saw Wongwichit lose the minimum.

It was Wongwichit who was the pre-flop raiser, making it 1,800 to go from early position with Chen (hijack) and a player on the button making the call to take play three-way to a flop of {10-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}.

Wongwichit checked, Chen chose to take a stab for 2,600, the button folded and Wongwichit called to take the action heads-up to the {5-Diamonds} turn. This saw no betting and the {7-Clubs} river card completed the hand. Wongwichit checked once more and after a few minutes in the tank, Chen checked behind.

Wongwichit turned over {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} , but this was not enough to beat Chen's {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flopped top pair and the Chinese player pulled in the pot to climb to 65,000 while Wongwichit dropped to 43,000.

Bin Tests Luyckx

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

According to Bart Luyckx, China's Sun Bin had not long picked off one of his bluffs before the following hand played out. It was Luyckx who was the instigator, limping from under-the-gun and the action folded around to Bin in the big blind who decided to raise to 5,500 in total. Luyckx made the call and it was off to a monochrome flop of {6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

Bin checked it over to Luyckx, who took a stab for 5,500, leaving himself around 15,000 behind. Bin immediately check-raised all-in to send the Belgium player deep into thought, where he remained for a minute or so before grudgingly folding.

Bin raked in the pot and flashed the {a-Clubs} as he did so.

"I thought you had something like that," mused Luyckx, "I still can't call though," he said as he counted up his much-reduced stack, while Bin padded out his to the tune of 49,000 in total.

Mac Chipping Up

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

While Winson Yau is still very much the chip leader with a stack of 172,000 he has just passed a few chips the way of Hong Kong's Anthony Mac, though he got away fairly cheaply as he folded pre-flop. However, there was a player involved in that hand who paid a whole lot more, his whole stack in fact, and left so quickly after the hand that we did not even get a chance to find out his name.

It was Mac who was the pre-flop raiser, making it 2,200 to go from middle position, with Yau flat calling from the button before the player in question shipped in the lot from the small blind. Mac mulled it over and called while Yau made a speedy fold and the cards were revealed.

Anthony Mac: {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Opponent: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Mac held both the best hand and had the covering stack, and looked happy enough with the {9-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{k-Clubs} run out, his top pair enough to send his opponent out the door and shoot his stack up to 95,000.
