He Ousts Menzel and Tong in Huge Pot

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ling He
Ling He

A sizable pot played out that resulted in the elimination of two players, with Ling He the man wielding the executioner's axe. Preflop it was Germany's Max Menzel who opened the action from middle position, with He making the call from one seat over as well as a player on the button and Tsz Fai Tong from the blinds.

Menzel bet close to pot on the {2-Spades}{8-Hearts}{j-Hearts} flop, which was close to 34,000, with He making the call, the button folding, Tong shoving and both Menzel and He making the call.

Tsz Fai Tong: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Max Menzel: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Ling He: {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}

All three players had hit a piece of the car crash flop, with He in front with a set of eights, though Tong was drawing live with the nut flush draw. The {j-Clubs} turn took Tong out of the running, with Menzel needing either an ace or a jack to survive. The {5-Spades} river was neither, and He sent both Tong and Menzel to the rail, stacking up to a little over 400,000 in the process.

Lin Doubles Through Shih

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Yu Sheng Lin
Yu Sheng Lin

Action folded around to Wei En Shih in the small blind, who peeked at his hole cards one by one before announcing he was all-in and was quickly called by big blind Yu Sheng Lin.

Wei En Shih: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Yu Sheng Lin: {a-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Shih was in front with the ladies, but the {4-Spades}{k-Clubs}{a-Hearts} flop saw Lin seize a lead he would not relinquish, with the turn and river running out {5-Hearts} and {10-Diamonds} respectively to give Lin a double-up.

Argyle Cripples Park, Fung Sends Him Packing

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Alejandria Argyle
Alejandria Argyle

Jongjun 'Jimmy' Park has just played his last two hands in the Main Event, losing both to bring his tournament to a close.

In the first hand, it was Park who opened the action, with a raise to 11,000 with Alejandria Argyle shoving from late position for 59,000 in total. Park made the call and the two turned over their cards.

Alejandria Argyle: {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Jongjun Park: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The runout came {3-Spades}{j-Spades}{6-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} to give Argyle the double and drop Park down to 45,500, which all went in the very next hand with {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, with Ping Cheong Fung looking up the South Korean player with {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}.

There was no three to be seen on the {10-Clubs}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Spades} runout and Park's tournament is now over, while Fung stacked up to 140,000. That brings the feild down to 38 players, one more elimination and play will be hand-for-hand on the bubble.

Chen's Departure Brings in the Bubble

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Pete Chen
Pete Chen

Pete Chen came agonizingly close to the money but has become the latest casualty to bring play to hand-for-hand. It was a battle of the blinds that left Chen crippled, with the Taiwanese player moving all-in from the small blind for around 85,000 with Zong-Ping Yang making the call for his tournament life from the big blind with just 2,000 less.

Pete Chen: {k-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Zong-Ping Yang: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}

It proved to be the right move at the wrong time for Chen, with Yang waking up with pocket jacks, which held on the {8-Spades}{10-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Spades}{8-Clubs} runout to leave Chen with a paltry 2,000 and shoot Yang up to 160,000.

Chen managed to stall for a couple of hands after, but eventually decided to make a stand and tossed in his last two chips three hands later, with Wei En Shih (small blind) and Zong-Ping Yang (big blind) content to check the {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts} board down the whole way.

Chen rolled over {a-Spades}{6-Hearts}, Zong-Ping Yang showed {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and Wei En Shih won the hand with the mighty {j-Spades}{3-Clubs} to bring the 37 remaining players to the bubble. The clock is now paused as hand-for-hand play commences.

Shin Doubles Through Tang

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Jae Wook Shin
Jae Wook Shin

Jia Tang was cruising along with a decent-sized stack, but that is no longer the case after tangling with Jae Wook Shin in a hand. It was Tang who was the initial aggressor, raising on the button with Shin defending from the big blind.

The flop came down {4-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}, Shin checked the action over to Tang, who made a continuation bet, and Shin busted out the check-raise, which Tang called to bring the pair to the {6-Hearts} turn.

Now he had seized the betting lead Shin was loath to lose it, and came out firing, with Tang making the call to keep the duo in action to the {7-Hearts} river. Shin shoved for 190,000 into the already sizable pot and Tang hit the think tank hard. Eventually, he reached a decision and slammed down the call.

Jae Wook Shin: {4-Clubs}{5-Hearts}
Jia Tang: {4-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

Given the heavy nature of the betting both pre and post-flop, it came of something of a surprise to see the hands both players turned over, but it was Shin who had the best of it with a straight, which was good for a chunky pot and he powered into the chip lead with a stack of 600,000, while Tang was left with a 27,000 bowl of rice.

Shih Gives Toh a Sweat

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
A relieved Soon Lee Toh survives shoving on the bubble
A relieved Soon Lee Toh survives shoving on the bubble

Soon Lee Toh was getting short, and the bubble is the worst time to be a short-stack. Eventually, Toh elected to make his stand, moving all-in preflop for ~60,000, and with chips to spare, big blind Wei En Shih made the call and the cards were turned over.

Wei En Shih: {6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}
Soon Lee Toh: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

Toh looked to be in great shape for a double-up until the {4-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop came down to gasps from the rest of the field, who had all crowded around the table to watch the action play out.

The {3-Hearts} turn gave Toh some additional flush outs, though the Singaporean was teetering on the brink of elimination. Fortuitously, the {9-Diamonds} river was just what the doctor ordered, counterfeiting Shih's two pair and giving a relieved looking Toh the pot.

Jia Tang's Departure Bursts the Bubble

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Jia Tang (hat) departs on the money bubble
Jia Tang (hat) departs on the money bubble

The bubble has burst, guaranteeing all 36 remaining players a TWD 50,500 (~$1,610) payday. The last man to depart empty-handed was the unfortunate Jia Tang, who was unable to recover from losing that huge pot to Jae Wook Shin just minutes earlier.

Although Tang found {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades} with which to make a stand, he was unable to best the {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} of Kun Han Lee, with Tang's final board in the Poker King Cup Taiwan Main Event running out {4-Spades}{k-Spades}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}.

Tang hit the rail, Lee stacked up to 375,000 and the rest of the field congratulated themselves on their good fortune at making the money.
