The Poker Masters Finale: A Champion Will be Crowned

Purple Jacket
Purple Jacket

The final day is here of the inaugural Poker Masters at the ARIA Resort & Casino. A champion will be crowned today and he will walk away wearing The Poker Masters Purple Jacket.

Tuesday saw 14 players return to the felt in Day 2 action of this prestigious $100,000 No Limit Hold'Em Event. There was one new entry in Byron Kaverman who took his seat at the end of level 10. Not only were they looking forward to the first place prize of over $1.5 million, they all had their sights set on sitting atop of the Poker Masters leaderboard to capture the Poker Masters Purple Jacket.

At the end of the day, only six players remained and it was Fedor Holz (1,471,000) heading into Day 3 with the chip lead. He is followed closely by his three German counterparts Christian Christner (1,367,000), Steffen Sontheimer (1,354,000), and Stefan Schillhabel (1,218,000). Two Americans round out the final table in Justin Bonomo (1,050,000) and Seth Davies (740,000). The remaining six players are guaranteed a min-cash worth $180,000 but will be in search of the first place prize of $1,512,000.

Heading into Day 3 action, all six players have a shot at capturing the title of Poker Masters Champion. Currently, it is Germany's Steffen Sontheimer in that prime position to walk away as the champion. He has earned $1,221,000 over the week with a win in Event #2 to go along with two other cashes. However, he would need at least a second place finish in order to lock up the victory. Fedor Holz is sitting in the second spot with $550,000 and can earn himself the Purple Jacket should he win and have Sontheimer finish no better than third place. With so many possibilities and scenarios waiting to unfold, today should be an exciting day nonetheless.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be providing continuous live updates from the tournament floor once play begins at 2:00 p.m. (PDT). Once the PokerGO live stream begins, our updates will coincide with the live stream, and will not include any spoilers for those watching along on PokerGO. So stay tuned right here to PokerNews.com for updates from the final day at the Poker Masters Event #5 where a champion will be crowned!

Seth Davies on Day 2
Seth Davies on Day 2

Hand #21: Stefan Schillhabel raised to 34,000 under the gun with the {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and the folded when Steffen Sontheimer three-bet to 113,000 from the cutoff with the {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

Hand #22: Fedor Holz raised the button to 35,000 with the {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Schillhabel defended his big blind holding the {k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. Schillhabel checked the {6-Spades}{2-Spades}{j-Hearts} flop and folded to Holz's continuation-bet.

Hand #23: Seth Davies looked down at the {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} in the hijack and raised to 33,000. Hand #123: Christian Christner limped in with {6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Steffen Sontheimer checked with {K-Diamonds}{2-Spades} from the big blind.

The flop landed {8-Spades}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and a bet of 55,000 from Christner was enough for him to win the pot.

Hand #124: Christian Christner raised his button to 85,000 and Seth Davies moved all in from the big blind for 535,000. After a few moments of thinking, Christner called to put Davies at-risk.

Davies: {A-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Christner: {K-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

The dealer spread a {5-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} flop to thrust Christner into the lead, and with Davies needing to one of the last aces in the deck, the {4-Hearts} on the turn would leave him drawing thin.

The river landed the {6-Hearts}, and Davies was eliminated in 4th place for a $324,000 payday.
