The first of four starting flights of the $1,150 Poker Palace Summer Championships Main Event kicked off at 5 p.m. local time. After 10 levels of 45 minutes each, 26 out of a field of 86 players made their way onwards to Day 2 which will continue on Sunday, March 7 at noon.
The biggest stack at the end of the night was bagged by John Sormi, who turned his original starting stack of 50,000 into 356,000 in chips. Sormi has plenty of experience and tons of cashes in Sydney and Melbourne to his name, including a massive A$85,347 cash at the WSOP Circuit final table in Sydney back in 2018.
Closely following Sormi in the counts are two well-known local players in Josh Norvock (341,500) and Gavin Ogilvy (330,000). Norvock is a rising star with over six-figures worth of winnings according to The Hendon Mob in the span of just over two years. Ogilvy is a regular here at the Club Marconi with no fewer than three outright wins here in the past four months, an incredible feat in its own right.
Plenty of poker royalty has already been spotted in and around the casino as more will take their shot in one of the three subsequent flights to follow. On Friday, Day 1B will commence at 5 p.m. local time, followed by Day 1C at noon on Saturday. At 6 p.m. on Saturday, a turbo Day 1D will kick off before the field combines at noon on Sunday for Day 2.
Keep following along with PokerNews live reporting for all the latest updates as the Main Event of the Poker Palace Summer Championships rolls on.
