Joe Hachem Eliminated in 6th Place

Joe Hachem - 6th Place
Joe Hachem - 6th Place
Stud:

Just before the break, we lost our first player.

Billy "The Croc" was the bring-in, showing the {3-Spades}. Joe Hachem raised with the {A-Diamonds}, and Mark Vos called with the {J-Hearts}.

On fourth street, Argyros checked, Hachem bet, and both Vos and Argyros called.

On fifth street, Argyros checked and Hachem bet all in for 500. Vos raised to 1,300, isolating himself against Hachem. Argyros folded and the hands were shown down:

Hachem: ({2-Hearts} {8-Spades}) {A-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}
Vos: ({K-Hearts} {10-Hearts}) {J-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {10-Spades}

Hachem picked up a pair on sixth street with the {2-Clubs}, but Vos drew the {10-Diamonds}, giving him triple tens. Hachem picked up a useless {4-Clubs} on the river, while Vos improved further with the {K-Diamonds}. His tens full of kings was enough to win the hand and eliminate the world champion from today's field.

Vos has moved up to 19,800 and is the chip leader.

Perceptive Hachem

James Obst and Joe Hachem
James Obst and Joe Hachem
With Van Marcus and Mark Vos tangling in a pot, the two men at the other end of the table struck up a conversation.

Joe Hachem to James Obst: "These two used to be the new kids on the block. But now you are."

Hachem, like everyone else, is of the belief that Obst will be a superstar in poker when he comes of age. He has already made millions in online poker, but at just 18, Obst can't play in the World Series of Poker for another three years.

Van Marcus Takes Down a Big Pot

Stud

Billy 'The Croc' was the bring in with the {3-Clubs}. Van Marcus completed to 400 with the {J-Spades} and James Obst raised to 800. Everyone folded to Marcus, who called.

On fourth street, Obst bet out with the {6-Clubs} and Marcus called with the {9-Spades} .

On fifth street, Obst bet again with the {6-Diamonds} and Marcus raised with the {K-Spades}. Obst called.

On sixth street, Obst received the {8-Hearts} and Marcus, having the {3-Spades}, asked Obst "How do you like your hand now?" and then bet. Obst liked his hand enough to call.

Obst check-called again on seventh street and Marcus turned over {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} to take the pot with an ace-high flush.

The Croc Loses Some Ground

Omaha 8 / b

Play folded around to Billy 'The Croc', who was on the button. The Croc raised and both Van Marcus and Tony G called from the blinds.

The flop was {A-Spades} {8-Clubs} {Q-Clubs}. Van Marcus checked, Tony G bet, and the other two called.

The turn brought the {10-Spades}. Marcus checked and Tony G bet again. Once again he got two callers.

The river was the {6-Spades}. This time, Van Marcus bet and Tony G called quickly. Argyros thought for a while, then called as well.

Marcus showed {2-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} for the nut low and Tony G showed {A-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {7-Spades} {5-Spades} for a flush. Argyros folded without showing.

Hachem's Mind Elsewhere

Omaha 8/b:

"Now this is tilt," Joe Hachem said while the dealer was shuffling up. He pointed over to the $25-25 cash game that is running at the adjacent table. "I've been eyeballing that seat, and now that I'm about to bust, it gets filled!"

Hachem turns his attention back to his table. The board shows {K-Spades} {K-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {K-Hearts}. With just 1,650 chips left, Hachem ends up all in against Mark Vos.

Hachem: {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} {9-Spades} {5-Spades}
Vos: {9-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}

Hachem picks up a much-needed double up, and he sits on 3,300 now; that cash game will have to wait.
