Whose Pot is This?

The Croc didn't realize it at first either.
The Croc didn't realize it at first either.
We find Billy "The Croc" Argyros tangled up in a pot with Allistair Desplace. The flop reads {Q-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {9-Clubs}. Desplace bets out 5,000, and Croc mini-raises it to 10,000. Desplace moves all in, and Argyros quickly makes the call. Argyros confidently turns over his {Q-Spades} {9-Spades} for top two pair, while Desplace is in bad shape, tabling {J-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}.

The turn is an unhelpful {2-Spades}, but lightning strikes on the river. The {J-Spades} peels off, giving Desplace trip jacks.

Neither player initially realizes the correct result of the hand though, as Desplace celebrates while The Croc backs away from the table, dejected. That jack on the river was also a third spade, making Argyros the winning spade flush. Both players reacted as if Desplace had won, and the dealer had to inform them that Argyros had won. The news was bad for Allistair Desplace; losing that pot means he is out of chips, and heads to the rail. The Croc, meanwhile, has chipped up to the lead, sitting on 110,000.
