"Doesn't This Stuff Only Happen On The Computer"

Kerry Stead pulls out the miracle to stay even
Kerry Stead pulls out the miracle to stay even
"Doesn't this stuff only happen on the computer" said Kerry Stead after he pulled off a miracle river to stay in the first rubber against Matthew "OnMyVPlates" Pearson.

All the chips had gone in preflop with Pearson's {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} looking good against Stead's {j-Clubs}{q-Clubs}.

Pearson liked the {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop and the {5-Spades} turn.

"Two outs" said Stead as the dealer turned over the {Q-Spades} river. Both players gasped, as the dealer pushed 6,000 chips Stead's way.

"Back to evens" said Stead as he stacked up his chips.

Adgee Ships The Justice

That's how he rolls baby!
That's how he rolls baby!
Andrew "Adgee" Jeffreys has "shipped the justice" in the only way he knows how, after he shoved over the top of the flop-bet of Billy "The Croc" Argyros on a flop of {Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

Argyros made the call with {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and held the best hand as Jeffreys tabled {10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. The turn fell the {A-Clubs} and Jeffreys gave a shout when the {J-Clubs} arrived to complete his flush! Jeffreys goes 1-0 up.

Meanwhile in other results, Dean Nyberg is 1-0 against Ben Savage, Michael Guzzardi has drawn first blood against Van Marcus while Bruno Portaro has gone 1-0 up against a short-stacked Tony Dunst.

Scott Leads From The Front

Stewart Scott Takes 1-0 Lead
Stewart Scott Takes 1-0 Lead
Captain Stewart Scott is leading from the front as he helps to shift some momentum back in the direction of the Live Team.

He's claimed the first leg of his match against Chris Evans. The chips were in on a flop of {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}{3-Diamonds} with Scott holding {A-Hearts}{A-Spades} for the lead against Evans' {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for an open-ended straight draw.

The turn {2-Diamonds} and river {q-Diamonds} missed Evans and Scott goes 1-0 up!

Zedveron Draws First Blood

Damien Elsing takes charge for the online team
Damien Elsing takes charge for the online team
Peter Aristidou has gone behind 1-0 in his game with Damien "Zedveron" Elsing.

There were two key hands in the first rubber.

In the first Aristidou had a {7-?} on a {k-?}{7-Hearts}{7-?} board against Zedveron's {A-Hearts}{k-Hearts}. The board ran out runner runner hearts to put a dent in Aristidou's stack.

A little later on Aristidou found his {A-Spades}{k-Spades} to be no good against Zedveron's {Q-?}{2-?}. The money went in on the turn with the board reading {2-?}{2-Spades}{6-Spades}{a-Diamonds}. The river bricked for the all-in Aristidou sending the online team up 1-0 through Zedveron.

Mat Hawker has also gone ahead 1-0 in his match up, as the online team takes charge in the early going.

Big Show Looking For The Big Show

Steve "The Big Show" Topakas called out online team captain Steve "StevoL" Leonard with his match-up decision.

The Big Show has been one of the more vocal live players, and has been extremely active on the PokerNetwork forums running the smack talk.

When asked why he picked the Online Captain Topakas was candid in his reply.

"I want to take the best and Stevo is the best" said Topakas in between hands.

Leonard is up early in the first rubber.

Bruno Keen For Vengeance

Bruno Portaro had a target in mind when he arrived for this tournament, and when it was his turn to pick there was only one name he wanted to call out.

Tony Dunst.

The Bolord-Bond 18 rivalry dates back to the ANZPT season opening event in Adelaide where both final tabled the Main Event.

Portaro finished eighth on that occasion and told us that he has a score to settle with Dunst who finished second.

Live Team Starts Well

The early advantage around the tables is with the live team as they have started strongly, although it is still very early.

Players are starting with 5,000 chips with the blinds at 25/50.

Van Marcus is down to 1,200 in chips, without even getting to showdown against Michael Guzzardi, while Stewart Scott is keeping the pressure on Chris Evans who has slipped to 2,000 in chips very quickly.

Things started a little better for Dean Nyberg who picked up pocket kings first hand, and made a straight on the second hand, to gain the early lead over Ben Savage.

Players Choice?

Rayan Nathan and Sam Youssef are facing off in the one of the first round match-ups.

Youssef is up early, and Nathan suggested that they should play a rotation of Omaha and Hold'em. Tournament director Jonno Pittock quashed the idea confirming that its Hold'em only.

Nathan will have to look for edges elsewhere.

A Little About PokerNetwork.com

PokerNetwork.com - Australia's Home of Poker
PokerNetwork.com - Australia's Home of Poker
The original idea for this event stemmed from the ongoing debates between members on the forums of PokerNetwork.com.

As Australia's largest poker website, PokerNetwork.com provides a home for all of Australia's best online players, who frequently participate in the forums to provide assistance to new players, advice to other members and join in plenty of fun discussions.

The rivalry between the online young guns and the live brigade is often a fierce one, and over time the war of words on the PokerNetwork.com forums has exploded and this event was born.

Check out this thread if you'd like a little more insight into some of these players and the rivalries that have formed.

The time for words is over. It's time to settle this on the felt!
