Hachem Halted

Hachem eliminated
Hachem eliminated
Some of the online guys look like they will be squaring off against each other in the second round after Johnathan Karamalikis eliminated Tony Hachem.

On a flop of {6-Spades}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds} Karamalikis bet out 275 and Hachem raised to 600. Karamalikis three-bet to 2,000 with Hachem moving over the top all-in.

Karamalikis made a quick call tossing his {k-Spades}{4-Spades} flush draw onto the table against Hachem's {j-Spades}{10-Hearts} top pair.

The {k-Clubs} spiked on the turn to put the Dong in front and the {5-Spades} made him a flush to rub salt into Hachem's wounds.

Hachem becomes the seventh Live Team member to hit the rail.

The Big Show Pulls An Online Move

Steve Topakas has taken a huge pot in a "battle of the Steves" with the online team captain Steve Leonard.

After Topakas raised to 450, Leonard made it 1,050 to go from the big blind. Topakas called and they saw a flop of {4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}.

Leonard fired 975 and Topakas moved all in for 3,075 with Leonard instantly calling.

Topakas: {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Leonard: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

The turn was the {9-Hearts} to give Topakas even more out to stay alive and he hit when the {Q-Hearts} fell on the river to complete his flush.

"That's an online move Big Show!" commented the rail as the hand has left Leonard on life support.

Trung Tran Ties

Trung Tran makes a good river call to force a third rubber
Trung Tran makes a good river call to force a third rubber
Trung Tran has forced a decider against Dave Lee after calling Lee's river all-in bet.

Preflop Tran opened to 300 with Lee making the call. The flop came {4-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs} with both players checking to the {2-Hearts} turn.

On the turn Lee fired out 500 and Tran called. The river {a-Hearts} had Lee move all in for 1,600, sending Tran into the tank.

After counting down his stack, and thinking for a while Tran made the call. Lee rolled over {7-Spades}{6-Hearts} trumped by Tran's {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}.

"Oh man, how do you make that call?" probed Lee. "So sick" he added as the dealer prepared the starting stacks for the deciding rubber.

Adgee Takes Out Crocky

Andrew Jeffreys advances to round two
Andrew Jeffreys advances to round two
The justice has been shipped with Andrew Jeffreys claiming a tough victory over Billy "The Croc" Argyros in a 2-1 result.

The chips were in on the turn on a board of {6-Spades}{9-Spades}{10-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} with both players holding monsters. Crocky flipped {J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a straight but it wasn't enough as Jeffreys flipped {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts} for the nuts.

The river was the {5-Diamonds} and Jeffreys advances for the online team to extend their lead to 6-4.

Marcus Levels It Up

Van Marcus
Van Marcus
Van Marcus has evened the score with Michael Guzzardi at 1-1 in an entertaining match that will now be decided in a tiebreaker third game.

Marcus was fortunate to get there after the chips went into the middle preflop with his {A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} trailing Guzzardi's {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs} but a five on the flop secured the win for Marcus.

Following the announcement of the result, Andrew Jeffreys and Billy Argyros piped up from a nearby table.

Jeffreys: "Van should be on the online team!"
Argyros: "He wouldn't even know how to start a computer!"

Marcus simply replied, "I hate you nerds!"

Gowen Defeats Dodds

Joel Dodds Eliminated
Joel Dodds Eliminated
The wildcard entrant in this event, Clonie Gowen has proven her worth to the live team with a straight sets victory over one of the hottest players in the country in Joel "Strong Play" Dodds.

After Gowen raised the button, Dodds popped it up from the big blind to 1,250. Gowen thought for a moment before making the call.

The flop came down a monotone {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and Dodds fired out 1,550. Gowen stretched back in her chair before declaring herself all in with Dodds instantly calling off his last chips.

Gowen: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Dodds: {Q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}

Dodds had a bare flush draw and found himself drawing dead when the {7-Diamonds} paired the board on the turn. The meaningless river was the {5-Spades} and Dodds departs to leave Gowen to advance to round two.

The online guys are suddenly a little quieter as the scoreboard is back to a more respectable 4-5.

Hachem Evens It Up

Its all tied between the Monsterdong and Tony Hachem
Its all tied between the Monsterdong and Tony Hachem
Karamalikis and Hachem will play a decider after Tony Hachem leveled things up.

Once again Hachem had the best hand when the money went in, holding {a-?}{k-?} against Karamalikis' {j-?}{9-?} on a {A-?}{10-?}{9-?}{8-?} board.

The {6-?} on the river wasn't able to get Karamalikis in front so Hachem is back from the dead.

They have just started the deciding rubber.

Hachem Has Heart

Hachem is a fighter
Hachem is a fighter
Tony Hachem was on the verge of elimination after Johnathan "xMONSTERxDONGx" Karamalikis got there on the river.

With the board reading {6-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{3-Hearts} Hachem held {8-Clubs}{j-Hearts} to be ahead, but needed to dodge Karamalikis' {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flush outs.

Ironically it was the {Q-Spades} that hit the river to give the Dong the bigger pair and leave Hachem on the brink of elimination.

Hachem's fighting spirit kicked in though and after taking some small pots, he found himself all in with {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} against Karamalikis' {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

An {8-Hearts} hit the flop, leaving Hachem in a commanding position, which he would not relinquish. Hachem moves back up to the rubber lead with 6,100 chips, while Karamalikis leads 1-0 overall.

Hachem was obviously happy after the hand shouting "Someone gets the Monster-donk a coffee, he's not going anywhere".

Portaro and Walsh Advance

Bruno Portaro
Bruno Portaro
Don't write off the live team just yet, as they've sent another two players through to round two with Bruno Portaro and Lisa Walsh both advancing in straight sets.

Walsh overcame Aleks Brkovic while Portaro's final hand saw his {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs} hold against the {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} of a short-stacked Tony Dunst on a board of {4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{7-Clubs}.

The scoreboard now reads 5-3 in favour of the online team with half of the matches completed.
