Germany's version of "Homer Simpson" entered the tournament. King's Casino allows players to enter under an alias for its tournaments.
"Homer Simpson" not only was one of the five players here in the wee hours of the morning agreeing to a deal in the PokerNews Cup Opening Event - but along with that event's champion Timothy Weltner - also was one of the eight players to also win a ticket to the Main Event via today's satellite.
Yesterday's PokerNews Cup Opening Event Winner Timothy Weltner also has the honor of being the first player eliminated in the PokerNews Cup Main Event.
The hand began with XXX min-raising in mid-position to 200. Weltner 3-bet from late position to 700 which Lithuania's Tomas Steponkus called. On a flop, Weltner bets 1,000 and Steponkus calls. Weltner fires again, this time for 2,000 chips and Steponkus raises to 7,000. Weltner is all-in for another 24,000 which is quickly called by Steponkus.
Weltner turns over for top two pair, while xxx held for trips. A meaningless hit the river to felt Weltner.
Weltner was quickly on line to re-enter and has already been seen seated at another table.
The field size has grown to 71 entrants, of which 70 are still in their seats. This number will continue to grow throughout the evening with late registration open for at least six more hours.
Matthias Orak raised from the button and three players called before Anna Yamshchikova gave up the big blind. The Board appeared. While Orak on the flop even alluded and was paid, the players turn and river checked.
Board:
Oraks with whiffed the board and his hand was not enough to win the pot against his opponents' .
In addition to the current chip leader, Tomas Steponkus, Rytas Staniukynas also is among the field. Staniukynas shared with us that he learned about the PokerNews Cup a couple of weeks ago when he was here at King's Casino for the World Series of Poker Circuit events.
With level 4 comes antes for the first time in the tournament. We now are up to 75 entrants in the PokerNews Cup Main Event Day 1A, with 71 players still in the field.
We noticed Slovakia's Matus Schnierer on the sideline thinking of joining in on the action. Schnierer was one of the five players to chop last night's event. However, he told us that, "I just don't feel it after bubbling the satellite earlier today in ninth place."
He shared with us that, "I am not sure I feel it after being up late last night, however, I may enter to avoid other things that are costing money." Schnierer, was enjoying a drink and seemed on the fence to enter when stating, "I already lost €100 over there," while pointing to the pits.
Schnierer was one of the more feared players last night on the final table on his way to a €2,607 payday, and we expect to see much more of him either today or whenever he decides to hop into the Main Event.
