2012 Paradise Poker Tour Champ Aleksander Abutovic Joins The Day 1b

Aleksander Abutovic

2012 Paradise Poker Tour 2 Barcelona Main Event champion Aleksander Abutovic is amongst the players currently in the day1 b of the PokerNews Cup Main Event.

Former professional footballer, Abutovic has total live tournament winnings for nearly $150,000 according to his profile on the Hendon Mob.

With past scores that include cashes in top international live poker events like the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), the World Poker Tour (WPT), and the European Poker Tour (EPT), Abutovic came all the way from Barcelona to play in the PokerNews with his son Joshua - who’s also in the field today.

Earlier this year, the player was also seen in several events including Barcelona's Estrellas Poker Tour (ESPT) where he finished ninth in the Main Event for $12,610.

“I used to live in Nuremberg, but now I am based in Barcelona and I love it there. However, I come back to Germany quite often and I always pay a visit to the King’s when I am around,” Abutovic told PokerNews.

Talking about the PokerNews Cup, Abutovic said he finds it “one of the best low buy-in events available in Europe right now.”

“Only a few weeks ago, I have seen another so-called ‘low buy-in event’ offering a €45,000 guaranteed prize pool for a €400 buy-in. Here, you pay €250 and you get to play for a share of €200,000 - I think the numbers speak for themselves.”

Right next to Janja we recognized the winner of the 2015 Italian Masters of Poker (IMOP), Germany’s Christoph Merten.

Back to Rozvadov after he cashed for €12,026 in the IMOP Main Event last March, Merten came back from the first break of the day to fight for survival and find a way to add some vital chips to a stack that does not look too healthy right now.

Lewis Murray Wins a Pot Against Joksic and Ohorodnyk

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Online Qualifier Inna Ohorodnyk was just involved in a hand with Australian Lewis Murray and another opponent. Her bet of 1,000 on the flop of {6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} was called by the two opponents. On the turn she checked and gave up the hand after a bet of 1,700 from Murray on the turn which was the {4-Diamonds}.

The {3-Hearts} came on the river with Lewis Murray firing out 3,000 and received the call. The Aussie showed {4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and won the pot.

Ohorodnyk was visibly irritated and Milan Joksic analyzed the situation exactly right: "You win, Why did you fold?"

Attila Toth-Madi
Attila Toth-Madi

Attila Toth-Madi is well known by us at PokerNews as he not only qualified to PokerNews Cup Main Event through an online satellite, but also the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event.

He seems very relaxed at the moment when we caught up with him while he was on his way to the €50 side event. He plans to play in Day 1C tomorrow.

The field keeps growing as we are at 151 players already in Day 1B in the PokerNews Cup Main Event with 135 remaining. With 98 additional players entering yesterday, we are already at almost 250 players in total between the first two opening flights.

It is expected that the field sizes will be even bigger tomorrow for Day 1C and Day 1D. Fortunately, King's Casino provides the biggest poker room anywhere in Europe, so they will be able to manage regardless of how many people decide to pony-up the €250 buy-in to play for a share of the at least €200,000 guaranteed prize pool.

There’s Something You Should Know About Milan Joksic

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante
Milan Joksic
Milan Joksic

He may not be the most talkative player at the table, but Austria’s Milan Joksic is someone all the other players should pay attention to.

Only a few minutes ago we told you about a pot Australia’s Lewis Murray won against Inna Ohorodnyk, Poitr Sadowski, Milan Joksic. What we didn’t say, however, is that one of the four players involved in the hand has live tournament winnings for well over $500,000.

In over a decade spent playing tournaments playing live poker in Europe, Joksic managed to put together a significant number of remarkable results like a second-place finish in the GCOP Vol II 4/6 Main Event for $81,000, a fourth-place finish worth $ 45,756 in a side event part of the 2012 EPT Berlin, and a third-place finish worth $63,171 in the 2011 CAPT Bregenz Open Main Event.

Last August, Joksic finished runner up in the € 200 No Limit Hold'em WPT Wanted Bounty held here at the King’s Casino in Rozvadov.

Matus Schnierer Joins the Field

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante
Matus Schnierer
Matus Schnierer

Matus Schnierer was hanging around King's Casino yesterday enjoying a few drinks, and hinted to us that he would be entering the Main Event today.

The Slovakia poker player is one of the newest to enter the field in Day 1B of the PokerNews Cup Main Event. Schnierer was part of the crew of five players that were at King's Casino two nights ago into the wee hours of the morning after agreeing to a chop in the PokerNews Cup Opening Event. He and his four opponents each secured a payday of €2,607.

Schnierer insisted that all players be paid the same due to the high blinds, and his logic prevailed as the chip leaders agreed this was the most fair.
