The €60 Hold'Em Championship Has Started

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante
PokerNews Cup
PokerNews Cup

The Main Event is no longer the only tournament running at the King’s Casino right now, as the €60 Hold’Em Championship has officially started.

The event features a €12,000 guaranteed prize pool and it is set to attract many of the players who have already secured a seat in the Main Event’s Day 2.

So far, 73 players ponied up the €60 buy-in. If you are looking for value and you are not busy with the Main Event - go for it.

Matus Schnierer Out Set Over Set

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante
Matus Schnierer
Matus Schnierer

Matus Schnierer has had a rough patch of luck ever since chopping the PokerNews Cup Opening Event for €2,607. When the Slovakian is not playing poker, he can often be seen dealing cards to other players at King's Casino.

Schnierer at the moment is understandably frustrated after exiting the PokerNews Cup Main Event for a second time after just missing the cut in Day 1B.

He shared with us that he made a standard raise from late position and was called by the button. Unfortunately for him, both players flopped Yatzhee with Schnierer nailing a set with {5-}{5-} and his opponent just out-doing him with a higher set with his {6-}{6-}. The action was small on the flop with Schnierer betting and his opponent just calling.

The turn didn't fill up quads for either player when all of Schnierer's chips went in the middle. Schnierer busted after he was unable to secure the win with a one-outer on the river. While we would be surprised to see him re-enter the PokerNews Cup Main Event in Flight 1C, we wouldnt be as surprised to see him enter the €60 buy-in King's Hold'em Championship with a €12,000 which just began moments ago and already has 73 entrants.

Roman Cieslik - Follow the Fish

We spotted German poker player and King's Casino regular Roman Cieslik who a couple of weeks ago finished in 26th place in the WSOP Circuit King's Casino Main Event for a nice payday of €6,223. Cieslik recognized our reporting team from a couple of weeks ago when we learned he has a great sense of humor.

He said in a joking manner, "Ah, you came to follow the fish," referring to himself.

Zooooooom - 377 Entrants

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
PokerNews Cup
PokerNews Cup

We already have 377 entrants in Day 1C with the number expecting to now eclipse over 400. This is well more than Day 1A and Day 1B combined.

PokerNews Cup Main Event Entrants by Flight

  • Day 1A - 98 (19 remaining)
  • Day 1B - 174 (36 remaining)
  • Day 1C - 377 (300 remaining)

In addition to the number continuing to grow in this flight, players will have one last chance to make it to day two with one more opening flight taking off at 21:00 local time. The last flight should be fast and furious with 10 minute blinds instead of the 30 minutes players in the other flights have been able to enjoy.

“…And Then BOOM!”

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

“I went up, up, up…and then BOOM. I lost it all.” Janek Hin’s Day 1c started with a terrible roller coaster, he shared with PokerNews during the dinner break.

“I went all the way up to 85,000 in chips and then I found myself with only 25,000 left after a couple of bad hands.” With 500/1,000 blinds and the day’s average at 39,930, Hin knows that his only way to stay in the event is to change gears and bring home some juicy pots.

Should things not go the way he wants, Hin plans not to fire a second bullet as he's considering to register to the Hold’Em Championship. “It’s cheap and it features a nice guarantee. Why not?”

At present, Hin is the only player from Estonia left in the Main Event, as the other two friends who joined him in an adventurous poker trip to Rozvadov are already comfortably sitting in the Hold’Em Championship event after busting out the Day 1c earlier today.

Roman Cieslik Busts

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Roman Cieslik
Roman Cieslik

Roman Cieslik is if anything entertaining. While our live coverage team was watching his table, he was all-in for five straight hands. One might think this is odd enough, but to make matters more entertaining he did so without looking at his cards.

Luck didn't go his way with his interesting "strategy." He was all-in on the flop of {A-}{10-}{4-} and seemed pleased with himself after he turned over his cards and learned he actually had an {A-} in his hand. His opponent, Michael Fischer, wasn't as entertained as the rest of the table at first due to being behind with {9-}{9-}.

However, as fate would have it, a {9-} spiked the river to send Cieslik on the rail. We won't be surprised to see him back in action or deciding to play some of the action-packed ring games running around the clock at King's Casino.

Meanwhile, BKRF Investments, is one of the players that is sad to see Cieslik go, saying, "Do you want to know about the crazy guy?" referring to Cieslik. BKRF Investments now has also seen his stack nearly double from the 30,000 players began the day with.

Online Qualifier Attila Toth-Madi Joins Day 1C

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Attila Toth-Madi
Attila Toth-Madi

Walking around the tournament room, we spotted also PokerNews Cup serial qualifier Attila Toth-Madi, the 38-year old player from Hungary that seems to win just about every contest on PokerNews.

Toth-Madi got his entry in the PokerNews Cup Main Event at partypoker, where he won one of the €1,100 packages on tap.

Before that, his online skills allowed him to win even more PokerNews-exclusive packages to freeroll the 2014 PokerNews Cup Main Event and the World Series of Poker.

“It has been a good tournament so far,” Toth-Madi shared with PokerNews. “I have 40,000 in chips and I don’t have any reasons to complain except maybe for one very strange hand I gave witnessed at my table,” he continued.

“Right after I sat down, a player with over 100,000 in chips went all-in pre-flop with {10-}{2-} . I just don’t get it.”
