Sorrentino Crippled After Doubling Yared

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Raffaele Sorrentino
Raffaele Sorrentino

Ghassan Yared was the one to open as he made it 6,000. His neighbor, Raffaele Sorrentino who he had battled with before, three-bet to 17,500. Action folded back to Yared and he called.

Yared checked on {5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and called Sorrentino's 15,500 bet.

The {8-Clubs} hit the turn and Yared checked once more. Sorrentino fired 26,500 and Yared moved in for 110,300 total, 83,800 more to Sorrentino.

The 2017 PokerStars Championship Monte-Carlo champion (€466,714/$508,281) and 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona 3rd place finisher (€850,110/$999,318) tanked long and hard before he eventually called.

Ghassan Yared: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}
Raffaele Sorrentino: {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

Sorrentino needed a diamond but wouldn't get one. Instead, the {9-Clubs} popped up to complete the board and Sorrentino parted ways with the majority of his stack.

Another Korotkikh Celebration

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Yet another loud scream in Russian indicated the involvement of Mikhail Korotkikh, while a disappointed Lukasz Winski headed to the rail. His cards were already in the muck and Korotkikh dragged in the chips with the {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} tabled.

The board lay {J-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{K-Hearts} and the Russian's full house scored the win. According to Yuki Ko, Winski and Korotkikh got it in after the turn and the former's {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for the flopped flush went up in flames, the miracle one outer for the straight flush never happened.

Fidan Zahiti turned to Korotkikh after the hand was done and dusted, and asked "did you say Good Bye America?" Korotkikh nodded with a big smile.

Mandic and Deinum Melted Away

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

While Michal Mrakes is back to a big stack, the chips of Goran Mandic and Foeke Deinum on his table vanished in quick succession.

Mandic called for his last 10,000 out of the big blind when Viktor Lavi pushed in early position.

Goran Mandic: {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Viktor Lavi: {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

The flop of {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} left Mandic with running diamonds as only hope, and it was all over after the blank {5-Hearts} turn and {J-Spades} river.

Soon after it was a flip for Deinum with the {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} and Harry Lodge had the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}. The board came {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and Lodge's stack of 65,800 had Deinum covered by a few.

Dramatic Flip Costs Mandic Nearly Everything

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Goran Mandic opened early and called when Martin Meciar jammed on the button for 66,000.

Meciar: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Mandic: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Mandic grabbed a big lead on the {k-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} board but the {7-Diamonds} river gave Meciar the set he needed to win the pot. Mandic is now sitting with crumbs and will have the big blind soon.

Parker Talbot Eliminated

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

"Seat Open!" we heard. As we came closer, we saw that Raffaele Sorrentino was stacking while Parker Talbot was making his exit. We later learned that Sorrentino had opened and Talbot had shoved for about 20 big blinds, according to Sorrentino. Sorrentino called with kings and easily won against Talbot's eights.

Veloso's Hero Call at the Wrong Time

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

A raise to 5,300 by Sérgio Filipe Veloso was three-bet by Kalidou Sow, who made it 12,500 to go. Veloso called and checked the flop of {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Spades}, Sow checked behind. On the {8-Clubs} turn, Veloso check-called a bet of 13,000 and left himself 60,000 behind to check again on the {6-Diamonds} river.

Sow bet 100,000 to set his opponent in, and the Portuguese indeed called it off with the {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. Sow had the {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} and raked in a massive pot, while some players at the table could barely believe what had just happened.

Bernatavicius Bows Out

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

A preflop raising war saw Thomas Mercier and Gytis Bernatavicius all in with near even stacks and both tabled premium hands.

Thomas Mercier: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Gytis Bernatavicius: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

The board came {J-Spades}{7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and Bernatavicius was ready to leave. "I have 104k, I think you have more," Mercier said and his stack was counted to be for 104,400. Bernatavicius indeed had more than that, but it was a mere 200 chips and those vanished the next hand with {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs} against the {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} of Jean-Jacques Zeitoun, who flopped a set.
