Thomas Flushes Riess Out

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Ryan Riess / Julian Thomas
Ryan Riess / Julian Thomas

After losing the vast majority of his stack to Murad Akhundov, Ryan Riess was down to less than one big blind. He waited for a few more hands before committing his last 6,000.

Julian Thomas raised to 20,000 behind him and all other players folded.

Ryan Riess: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Julian Thomas: {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Riess was in a good spot to survive but the flop was devastating: {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. The {9-Spades} on the turn left the 2013 WSOP Main Event champion drawing dead, making the {A-Hearts} river meaningless.

Two Big Pots at the End

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Hand 1

John Juanda raised to 20,000 and Pavel Plesuv called in the small blind. On the {Q-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Spades} flop, Plesuv check-called a bet worth 35,000 and the duo then checked the {8-Clubs} turn. Plesuv bet the {7-Diamonds} river for 45,000 and Juanda called to see Plesuv roll over {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}. Juanda had that beat with {K-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for a straight.

Hand 2

The last hand, also over on table four, took a bit longer and featured Dmitry Yurasov and Julian Thomas. The former was in the big blind and the latter raised to 17,000 from under the gun, which Yurasov called. On a flop of {J-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}, Yurasov check-raised from 17,000 to 58,000 and Thomas called.

After the {8-Clubs} turn, Yurasov bet 90,000 and was called before firing the {9-Hearts} river for 120,000. Thomas used one time bank card and then moved all in for 322,000. Yurasov himself also used one time bank card and folded with three seconds left.

Break

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

The 28 remaining players are on a 15-minute break. After the break, we will play one more level of 60 minutes before chips are bagged and tagged for the night.

Sanioglu Takes Two

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Ekrem Sanioglu raised to 25,000 from the cutoff and Joao Simao called in the small blind. On the {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop, Simao checked and Sanioglu got through with a bet of 125,000.

One hand later, Sanioglu raised to 18,000 and Philipp Gruissem defended the big blind. Sanioglu joked "flush" and Gruissem smiled back. The flop came {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{7-Spades} and Gruissem checked, then folded to Sanioglu's bet worth 55,000. Sanioglu flashed the {A-Hearts} and raked in another pot to take the lead on the money bubble.

The two shortest stacks are Igor Kurganov and Timothy Adams, who also happen to be on Sanioglu's table.

Kurganov's Shove Goes Through

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

The action has come to a halt once again and just two minor hands went to a showdown, albeit with barely any action.

Then, Philipp Gruissem raised to 20,000 and Ekrem Sanioglu called in the small blind. Igor Kurganov shoved out of the big blind for 81,000 and both opponents folded. Kurganov forfeited his small blind the next hand when Sanioglu raised the button and won the blinds and antes.

Adams Doubles on the Bubble

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Timothy Adams open-shoved his last 66,000 out of the small blind and Philipp Gruissem reluctantly called out of the big blind. Once all other tables were finished, the cards were turned over.

Timothy Adams: {Q-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}
Philipp Gruissem: {2-Clubs}{2-Spades}

The board ran out {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{A-Spades}{K-Hearts} and Adams doubled.

Kurganov Doubles Through Gruissem

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Igor Kurganov
Igor Kurganov

Philipp Gruissem once again tried to burst the bubble, this time by taking on Igor Kurganov. A limp-shove of Kurganov saw his stack of 120,000 go into the middle of the table and Gruissem called.

Igor Kurganov: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}
Philipp Gruissem: {A-Diamonds}{3-Spades}

The bubble still didn't burst as Kurganov's aces held up on {Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}.

Patel Takes from Sammartino

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Dario Sammartino raised from early position for 17,000 and Emil Patel called in the small blind. Patel check-called a bet on the {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop and did so again for 72,000 on the {7-Clubs} turn. The {4-Diamonds} river was checked through and Patel rolled over {K-Spades}{10-Spades}, which was good enough to win the pot.

Both players have profited from the long bubble thus far and built their stacks above average. The best one of them all is Charlie Carrel though, who has been picking up pot after pot on his table and is currently at 800,000.
