Panyak River Bet Tortures Maksim Pisarenko

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Maxim Panyak was in the big blind and bet 6,600 on the turn of a board reading {5-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}.

His opponent in the pot, Maksim Pisarenko, called.

The river was the {10-Spades} and Panyak bet again, but this time he just bet 3,300.

Pisarenko looked a bit stunned at first and over the next minute or so he became increasingly tortured as to whether or not he should call. It was a tiny bet compared to the pot and was not a hugely significant pot in relation to his stack, nevertheless it seemed that Panyak had got in his head and was spinning it round.

They chatted back and forth in Russian for a while and at last Pisarenko called the bet.

Panyak tabled {5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and Pisarenko checked the board to make sure he wasn’t missing something before showing the winning {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}.
